The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 144 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Six people were arrested, and four were on outstanding warrants.
Man Arrested for Arson CK23053555
On October 12, 2023, at 2:40 a.m., emergency crews responded to a fire in Bothwell.
It was discovered a brush fire had spread to the Bothwell Furniture. The fire was declared an arson and turned over to the Criminal Investigation Branch.
A 24-year-old Bothwell man was arrested and charged with arson. He was released from custody with conditions and a future court date of November 6, 2023.
Youth Arrested for Probation Violation CK23053570
At 7:49 a.m., police responded to St. George Street in Chatham for a report of a young man walking with a handgun. Officers quickly arrived on the scene and located the youth in question.
Through investigation, it was determined that the youth was in possession of a BB gun. Officers also discovered the youth was bound by a probation order prohibiting him from possessing a firearm.
The 16-year-old Chatham youth was arrested and transported to police headquarters. He was charged with failing to comply with a probation order, possessing a firearm, and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was released with conditions and a future court date of November 6, 2023.
Man Arrested for Intimate Partner Violence CK23053662
On July 12, 2023, the man was arrested and charged with several offences related to intimate partner violence. Following court proceedings, the man was released with conditions prohibiting him from associating with the victim.
On October 12, 2023, at 6:22 p.m. police began investigating a breach of this condition. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered the man breached this condition on two occasions. Specifically on September 18 and October 12, he approached the victim and attempted to engage in conversation. As a result, officers located and arrested on Oxley Drive in Chatham.
The 38-year-old Chatham man was charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
