Chatham-Kent: The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 162 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Seven people were arrested, and three were on outstanding warrants.
Man Arrested for Assaulting a Peace Officer CK23059988
At 12:36 p.m., police responded to the LCBO on Wellington Street West in Chatham for a theft investigation.
Upon arrival, police learned that the man had entered the store dressed to disguise his identity. He removed merchandise from the shelves and attempted to leave without paying. Two Loss Prevention staff members tried to stop him as he attempted to exit. The man assaulted both members before he was successfully taken into custody.
Officers also learned on June 15, 2023, and October 16, 2023, the man entered into probation orders with conditions prohibiting him from attending the address.
The 26-year-old Chatham-Kent man has been charged with theft, possession of stolen property, wearing a disguise with intent to commit a criminal offence, two counts of failing to comply with a probation order, two counts of resisting arrest, and two counts of assaulting a peace officer. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
Woman Arrested for Theft CK23060074
At 8:49 p.m., police responded to Walmart on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg for a theft investigation.
Police arrived on the scene and discovered the woman removed items from the shelves and attempted to leave the store without paying. Officers also confirmed the court had released the woman on January 3, 2023, and November 8, 2023, with a condition prohibiting her from leaving her house between 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. unless under specific exceptions.

Man Arrested for Intimate Partner Violence CK23060099
On November 21, 2023, at 4:17 a.m., police responded to a home on Park Street West in Chatham for a disturbance.
Upon arrival, the police learned the man and the woman had verbally argued. When the woman called for police assistance, the man assaulted her. The man was found on the front porch by officers and arrested.
The 40-year-old Chatham man has been charged with assault. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
