The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 186 calls for service in the past 24 hours. Six people were arrested, and two were on outstanding warrants.
Man Arrested for Care and Control CK23014811
At 9:59 a.m., police attended King Street East in Chatham for a suspicious vehicle.
Police arrived and found a man, believed to be under the influence of a substance, in care and control of a motor vehicle. When the man refused a standard field sobriety test demand, he was arrested. Upon a search, incident to arrest, he was found possessing a suspected controlled substance.
The 32-year-old Chatham man was charged with possessing a controlled substance and refusing a demand. He was released with a future court date.
Man Arrested for Driving While Suspended CK23014858
At 3:47 p.m., while on general patrol, police observed the man driving on Lacroix Street in Chatham. The officer recognized the man from previous encounters and knew the man did not possess a valid driver’s license.
Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the man continued driving and failed to stop the vehicle. Police followed the vehicle for a short distance when the man pulled into a driveway on Gray Street. Upon arrest, the man was found possessing suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine.
The 37-year-old Chatham man was charged with flight from police, driving while suspended and possessing a controlled substance. He was released with a future court date.
Woman Arrested for Impaired Driving CK23014864
At 4:05 p.m., police responded to a traffic complaint on Grand Avenue West in Chatham. It was reported a woman was suspected of using a substance before getting behind the wheel of a vehicle and driving away.
Police located the vehicle on St. Clair Street and conducted a traffic stop. Police believed the woman was driving under the influence and conducted a standard field sobriety test.
The woman was arrested and transported to police headquarters.
The 26-year-old Wallaceburg woman was charged with impaired driving. She was released with conditions and a future court date of May 1, 2023.
