The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 159 calls for service in the past 24 hours. Five people were arrested one was on an outstanding warrant.
Man Charged with Weapon OffencesCK23013376
On March 19, 2023, at 7:19 p.m., police responded to reports of a man walking on King Street West in Chatham with what appeared to be a rifle-style firearm.
Police attended and located the man on the Fifth Street bridge, who was arrested without incident. The firearm was thrown in the river by the man prior to arrest. While transporting the man to police headquarters, the man uttered comments to cause harm to the officer.
Through investigation, police learned the man was bound by conditions of a release order and several prohibition orders not to possess any weapons, including imitation firearms.
The 28-year-old Chatham-Kent man was charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm, uttering threats, failing to comply with a release order and four counts of possessing a weapon contrary to a prohibition order. He has been held pending a bail hearing.
Man Arrested for Being Intoxicated CK23013459
At 10:44 a.m., police responded to a disturbance on Dufferin Avenue in Chatham.
Upon arrival, police located the man intoxicated and unable to care for himself.
The 74-year-old Raleigh Township man was arrested and transported to police headquarters. He was held until he was sober.
Man Arrested for Mischief CK23013564
At 11:21 p.m., the man walked up to the Chatham-Kent Police headquarters on Third Street in Chatham and began kicking the front door, causing the glass to break.
The man fled the area only to be found causing a disturbance at his mother’s home a short time later.
The 28-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and charged with mischief. He was transported to police headquarters and released with conditions and a future court date of April 24, 2023.
