Chatham-Kent, Ontario: The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 141 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Nine people were arrested and two were on outstanding warrants.
Man Arrested for Conditional Sentence Order Violation CK24010841
At 9:51 a.m., police conducted a well-being check on a man reported to be sleeping in the elevator of a building on Fifth Street in Chatham.
Officer attended and confirmed a warrant was issued for the man on January 19, 2024, for breaching his Conditional Sentence Order.
The 36-year-old Chatham man was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was held for a bail hearing.
Man Arrested for Theft CK24010872
At 2:38 p.m., the Essex Ontario Provincial Police contacted the Chatham Kent Police, advising they had the man in custody.
The man was wanted on outstanding warrants as a result of a February 28, 2024, theft investigation in Wheatley.
The 30-year-old Wheatley man was transported to the Chatham Kent Police Service and charged with theft, possession of stolen property and wearing a disguise with intent to commit a criminal offence. He was released with conditions and a future court date of April 8, 2024.
Woman Arrested for Vehicle Theft CK24010936
At 9:14 p.m., police received information a vehicle had been stolen from outside a convenience store on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg.
Officer arrived in the area and quickly located the vehicle. Officer initiated a traffic stop but the driver failed to comply. Officers deployed a tire deflation device and successfully stopped the vehicle.
The 25-year-old Wallaceburg woman was arrested and charged with motor vehicle theft, possession of stolen property over $5000, and flight from a police officer. She was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
Five Youths Arrested for Assault CK24010959
On March 11, 2024, at 1:47 a.m., police responded to a disturbance on King Street in Chatham. Information was received approximately eight youths were in a physical altercation the corner of King Street and William Street.
Bystanders attempted to intervene but were then assaulting by the youths.
A 14-year-old, a 15-year-old, and a 17-year-old male youths and two 15-year-old female youths were located, arrested, and charged with two counts of assault. They were transported to police headquarters and released with conditions and a future court date of April 8, 2024.
