The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 188 calls for service in the past 24 hours. Seven people were arrested, and four were on outstanding warrants.
Man Arrested for Weapons Offences CK23011681
At 12:05 p.m., police responded to Cecile Avenue in Chatham for a weapons investigation.
Through investigation, police learned the man was riding in a vehicle that drove by students from a local high school. As the students and the vehicle crossed paths, the man pointed and fired an airsoft gun, striking one student in the face and one in the arm. The students sustained minor physical injuries.
The man was identified, spoken to over the phone and turned himself in to the police.
The 18-year-old Wallaceburg man was charged with weapons dangerous, two counts of assault with a weapon and three counts of pointing a firearm. He was released from headquarters with conditions and a future court date.
Man Arrested for Intimate Partner Violence CK23011730
At 4:35 p.m., police responded to an assault investigation on Park Street in Chatham.
Police arrived and learned man and the woman engaged in a verbal argument that escalated when the man threw food at the woman. During the physical altercation, the man struck the woman in the face and wrapped his arm around her neck, cutting off her airway. The physical altercation continued and moved from one apartment area to another. The woman was finally able to break free and called the police.
Police also learned the court had released the man with conditions not to communicate with the woman.
The 33-year-old Chatham man was charged with failing to comply with an undertaking, assault with a weapon, assault and assault causing bodily harm. He was arrested, transported to police headquarters, and held pending a bail hearing.
Man Arrested for Intimate Partner Violence CK23011811
On March 10, 2023, at 4:30 a.m., police responded to Wedgewood Avenue for a disturbance.
Police learned the woman was sleeping when the man entered the room and began yelling comments that he was going to cause her harm. The man slapped the woman several times before they exited the room, and the police were called.
Police also learned the man was bound by conditions of a release order not to communicate with the woman or be at her residence.
The 46-year-old Chatham man was charged with uttering threats, assault and two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
