The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 179 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Four people were arrested, and one was on outstanding warrants.
Man Arrested for Robbery CK23032394
At 3:59 p.m., police responded to a business on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg for a robbery investigation.
Through investigation, police learned the man threatened to harm the employee if the card he was using to purchase items did not work. When the card was declined, the man fled the store. He attempted to steal a bicycle but was unsuccessful.
Police arrived on the scene and located the man immediately. When officers attempted to arrest the man, he fled. After a short foot chase, the man was taken into custody. Upon a search incident to arrest, the man was found with items from the store.
The 28-year-old Chatham-Kent man was charged with robbery, resisting a peace officer, and possessing stolen property. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
Man Arrested for Bail Violations CK23032486
On June 26, 2023, at 1:14 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on West Bothwell Road in Bothwell.
Police learned the man had a suspended driver’s license and was bound by a release order with conditions not to operate a motor vehicle. He was arrested and transported to police headquarters.
The 55-year-old Seaforth, Ontario, man was charged with failing to comply with a release order. He was released with conditions and a future court date of July 24, 2023.
Man Arrested for Dangerous Driving CK23032493
On June 26, 2023, at 2:57 a.m., emergency crews responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Poplar Street in Chatham.
Police arrived on the scene and confirmed the vehicle was stolen from London and was the same vehicle officers attempted to stop at 2:32 a.m. on Clachan Road north of Bothwell. The driver fled the scene on foot before police arrival. At 3:11 a.m., police also received a call of someone knocking on the window of a Cornhill Street home. After a foot chase and the deployment of K9 Helix, the man was found and arrested.
The 25-year-old man in London was charged with flight from police, mischief, possession of stolen property, failing to remain at the scene of a collision, two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and driving without a license. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
