Chatham-Kent, Ontario: The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 162 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Seven people were arrested and five were on outstanding warrants.
Man Arrested for Assault CK24030738
On June 18, 2024, police responded to Gregory Drive West in Chatham for an assault investigation. Following a thorough investigation, it was determined that the man attended the home of the victim to address a situation that occurred between the man’s daughter and another female youth. The confrontation escalated when the man was belligerent and acting aggressively towards the youth mother. The altercation escalated when the man assaulted the woman and pushed her backwards, which caused her to knock another woman to the ground. Both women sustained minor physical injury.
During the altercation the man also fell forward causing him to sustain minor physical injury to his shin. The man left prior to police arrival. A warrant was issued for his arrest when he failed to turn himself in to the police.
On July 2, 2024, at 7:47 a.m. police attended the man’s home and arrested him on the outstanding warrant.
The 47-year-old Chatham man was transported to police headquarters, where he was held pending a bail hearing. He currently faces the following charges: two counts of assault.
Man Arrested for Failing to Attend Court CK24030765
On March 13, 2022, police responded to Canal Street in Tilbury for a disturbance. Through investigation, officers learned the man assaulted another during an argument. He was arrested and released with a court date. When he failed to make his court appearance a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On July 2, 2024, at 11:05 a.m., the man attended the Ontario Court of Justice on Grand Avenue West in Chatham and turned himself in to the police.
The 32-year-old Tilbury man was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was held pending a bail hearing. He is currently facing the following charges: two counts of assault.
Man Arrested for Fraud CK24030821
On April 9, 2024, at 8:57 a.m., police began a fraud investigation after receiving a call from a benefits provider.
Though investigation, officers learned the man submitted several benefit claims in excess of $8000 that were proven to be fraudulent.
On July 2, 2024, at 4:07 p.m., the man was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was released with conditions and a future court date of August 12, 2024. He is currently facing the following charges: fraud over $5000.
Youth Arrested for Assault CK24030841
At 6:29 p.m., police responded to a business on Third Street in Chatham for a disturbance.
Upon arrival officers learned a female youth engaged in a verbal argument with a woman that escalated when the youth pushed the woman to the ground.
The 16-year-old Chatham youth was arrested and released with a future court date. She was charged with assault.
