The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 203 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Three people were arrested, and two were on outstanding warrants.
Woman Arrested on Outstanding Warrant CK23039891
On March 17, 2022, at 8:31 a.m., the police responded to a business on Nelson Street in Wallaceburg regarding a break-and-enter investigation. Following a thorough investigation, the individuals involved, a man and a woman, were identified.
Subsequently, the woman was apprehended and charged with possession of stolen property. She was given a court date, which she failed to attend, resulting in a warrant for her arrest.
On August 1, 2023, the 57-year-old Wallaceburg woman was located and subsequently arrested. She was released with a future court date.
Meanwhile, the 38-year-old Chatham-Kent man is currently wanted on an outstanding warrant for the same offence. Efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend him.
Theft of an ATV CK23040031
On August 2, 2023, at 12:24 a.m., the police responded to a stolen vehicle investigation at a business on Queen Street North in Tilbury. The incident was captured by the business surveillance footage, along with footage from earlier in the day, which enabled the officer to identify the suspect. The officer had recognized the suspect from prior interactions.
At 2:29 a.m., the officer located the suspect driving on Lyon Street in Tilbury. A traffic stop was initiated, and the suspect was subsequently arrested. During the arrest, the suspect provided the officer with the stolen vehicle’s location, which was found near Thamesville. Additionally, it was discovered that the suspect was prohibited from operating a motor vehicle.
The 36-year-old Tilbury man was charged with driving while prohibited, theft over $5000, and possessing stolen property. He was transported to police headquarters and released with conditions pending his court appearance scheduled for September 11, 2023.
Assault Investigation CK23033551/CK23034302
On June 30, 2023, at 9:57 p.m., the police responded to a disturbance at Westcourt Boulevard in Wallaceburg. Upon investigation by front-line officers and, subsequently, the Criminal Investigation Unit, it was discovered that a 19-year-old man was visiting a friend at the residence when the friend’s parents returned home.
The man engaged in disruptive behavior and was requested to leave by the woman. During the altercation, the man broke a bottle and used a shard of glass to inflict a neck injury upon the woman. Two men who witnessed the assault intervened and struck the man multiple times in the head, causing him to lose consciousness.
The woman and the man were immediately transported to the hospital by EMS with life-threatening injuries. Subsequently, the woman was transferred to London Health Sciences for further treatment and has since been released. The man was transferred to Windsor Regional Hospital for further treatment.
Due to the man’s medical condition and expected recovery time, a warrant was issued for his arrest upon his release from the hospital. Consequently, on August 1, 2023, after being discharged from the hospital, the 19-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He was then transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing, which resulted in him being remanded into custody for another court appearance on August 2, 2023.
At the time of the incident, the 18-year-old and 30-year-old Wallaceburg men who had intervened and struck the man were also charged with aggravated assault. They were transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing. Ultimately, the courts released both individuals with conditions and scheduled future court date for August 22, 2023.
