The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 166 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Four people were arrested.
Man Arrested for Assault (CK23016740)
On April 8th, 2023 at 9:19am police responded to a disturbance in the area of Fifth Street in Chatham. Upon arrival, officers located two victims who advised that while waiting in line at a soup kitchen, they had been assaulted by an unknown male. Police located the male suspect still on scene and placed him under arrest as a result of the investigation.
The 29-year-old Chatham man was charged with two counts of assault and transported to police headquarters where he was later released from custody on an Undertaking with a future court date.
Man Arrested for Impaired Driving (CK23016845)
On April 8th, 2023 at 7:27pm police received multiple complaints of an erratic driver in the area of Queen’s Line, travelling at high rates of speed and swerving across the roadway. The vehicle was observed by police a short time later on Middle Line travelling at approximately 166km/h, and a traffic stop was subsequently initiated.
Through investigation, police formed a suspicion that the driver was impaired by alcohol, and a roadside breath test was consequently administered resulting in a “fail” being registered. The male was then arrested and transported to police headquarters where two breath samples registering over the legal limit were obtained. Edward Bartel of Windsor, ON was charged with Impaired Operation (over 80) and Stunt Driving. He was later released from police custody on an Undertaking with a future court date.
Warrants (CK23016899 / CK23016785)
On April 8th, 2023 at 2:01pm police located a man in the area of Oakdale Road in Florence believed to be subject to an outstanding warrant. A query of the man was conducted which confirmed a warrant to be in effect for failing to attend court (fingerprints). The 22-year-old Florence man was arrested by police on the strength of this warrant and released a short time later at police headquarters by way of an Appearance Notice with a future court date.
On April 9th, 2023 at 4:37am police received a notification that a female wanted on multiple outstanding warrants (fail to attend) with Chatham-Kent Police Service was currently in Walpole Island Police custody. The 24-year-old Wallaceburg woman was subsequently brought to police headquarters in Chatham to be held for a bail hearing.
