Chatham-Kent, Ontario: The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 208 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Four people were arrested and two on an outstanding warrants.
Break and enter Heather drive Chatham CK24060198
At 10:37 am on November 23/24 a call was received for a woman checking doors on Heather drive Chatham. Officers were able to locate the woman and found her to have a laptop. Through investigation it was found the laptop was stolen from a shed in the area. A year old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with break and enter and the laptop returned to the owner. The woman was released with a future court date.
Theft, Possession /Bail violations. St. Clair Street, Chatham CK24060234
At 4:26 pm a call was received from a local grocer on St Clair Street Chatham. A man for the second time on the same day attempted to steal meat from the store. The man dropped the meat when confronted and fled in a vehicle and was stopped by the Police. A 37 year old man was arrested for theft. It was found that the male was under house arrest for previous theft charges. The man was taken to Chatham-Kent Headquarters and charged with theft and possession and failing to comply with his release order. The man was held for bail.
Warrant arrest Thames Street Chatham CK24060298
On November 23/2024 a suspicious male complaint was received at 10:41 pm in the area of Thames St, Chatham. A man was located and provided a false name when speaking with officers. It was found that the man had two outstanding warrants. The man was placed under arrest and resisted the officers in attempt to leave. A 44-year-old Chatham man was charged with obstruct police and resist. The man was arrested on outstanding warrants and held for bail based on the previous and new charges.
The Chatham-Kent Police continue to receive complaints from members of the community being defrauded. The scammers target the elderly population with emails and phone calls.
The Chatham-Kent Police would like to remind citizens that payment using gift cards is a common scam technique. Scammers are very clever and crafty, so please be very cautious of anyone asking for gift cards, money or Bitcoin. Gift cards are for gifts, not payments.
Ways to assist in protecting friends and family:
-Use two factor authentication.
-limit daily amounts allowed to be withdrawn online.
-Remind elderly family/friends not to give out personal information or respond to emails that they do not know the original sender.
