Chatham-Kent, Ontario: The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 141 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Seven people were arrested and three on outstanding warrants.
Man Arrested for Theft CK24003327
On December 27, 2023, the man entered the LCBO on Wellington Street West in Chatham. He removed items from the shelves and exited the store without paying. Video surveillance identified the man, and a warrant was issued for his arrest when he was not located.
On January 23, 2024, at 9:28 a.m., officers located the man at Princess Street and King Street East in Chatham. He was arrested and transported to police headquarters.
The 28-year-old Chatham-Kent man was charged with theft and possession of stolen property. He was released with conditions and a future court date of March 4, 2024.
Man Arrested for Impaired Driving CK24003348
At 11:49 a.m., police began investigating an impaired driving complaint that originated in the area of Park Avenue East in Chatham.
Through investigation, the officers immediately located the vehicle’s registered owner and identified the driver. Officers attended the driver’s residence and found him to be intoxicated. The officers formed grounds to arrest the man for impaired driving.
At 12:23 p.m., he was transported to police headquarters for breath tests.
The 65-year-old Chatham man was charged with having a blood alcohol level exceeding the legal limit. He was released with conditions and a future court date of February 5, 2024.
Man Arrested for Assault CK24003364
At 4:15 a.m., police responded to Reaume Avenue in Wallaceburg for an assault investigation.
Officers learned the man and the woman were involved in a physical altercation where the woman was thrown to the floor. The man left before police arrived.
At 1:25 p.m., police located and arrested the man. He was transported to police headquarters.
The 24-year-old Walpole Island man was charged with assault. The man is also facing the following charges from other incidents: failing to comply with a probation order, obstructing a police officer, escape lawful custody, failing to identify self and failing to stop. He was held pending a bail hearing.
Man Arrested for Assault CK24003382
On January 22, 2024, at 1:37 p.m., police responded to Lorne Avenue in Chatham for a assault investigation.
Through investigation, officers learned of an incident between the man and the victim that escalated into an assault. Further investigation revealed several historical incidents, dating back to 2019, where the victim was assaulted and their property damaged by the man.
On January 23, 2024, at 3:49 p.m., the 25-year-old Chatham man attended Chatham-Kent Police headquarters and turned himself in to the police. He is currently charged with three counts of mischief, three counts of assault and three counts of assault with a weapon. He was transported to police headquarters and released with conditions and a future court date of February 12, 2024.
Man and Woman Arrested for Drug Trafficking CK24003428
At 11:29 p.m., an officer on regular patrol observed a vehicle drive through the intersection of Landing Pass and Grand Avenue East in Chatham. The officer conducted a traffic stop and discovered the driver did not have a valid driver’s license and was bound by several prohibition orders.
The officers conducted a search and located suspected cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, and oxycodone with an estimated street value of $8000. Officers also located a conducted energy weapon.
The driver and the passenger were arrested and transported to police headquarters.
52-year-old Chatham man was charged with failing to stop at a stop sign and driving while under suspension under the Highway Traffic Act. He was also charged criminally with unauthorized possession of a weapon, four counts of possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order and four counts of possession of a controlled substance with the purpose of trafficking. He was held pending a bail hearing.
The 61-year-old Chatham woman was charged with four counts of possession of a controlled substance with the purpose of trafficking. She was released with conditions and a future court date of February 22, 2024.
Man Arrested for Impaired Driving CK24003436
On January 24, 2024, at 1:53 a.m., police responded to Fargo Road in Harwich Township for a traffic complaint.
Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The officer believed the man was driving while under the influence of an intoxicating substance. The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters for future tests. His vehicle was towed.
The 41-year-old Blenheim man was charged with impaired driving and driving with a suspended license. He was released with conditions and a future court date of February 5, 2024.
