The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 175 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Five people were arrested, and one was arrested on outstanding warrants.
Man Arrested for Intimate Partner Violence CK23048449
Yesterday morning, at approximately 7:50 a.m., police received a domestic related complaint involving parties that were previously in an intimate relationship.
Upon arrival, the officers learned an argument over text messages and phone calls were exchanged between the victim and accused’s new significant other. The situation escalated when the accused also became involved through text messages and phone calls and threatened to hurt the victim and the victim’s child.
The 26-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with one count of Utter Threats to Kill and one count of Utter Threats to Cause Bodily Harm. He was transported to police headquarters and later released with conditions and a future court date of October 23rd, 2023.
Woman Arrested for Theft CK23048330
On Thursday September 7th, 2023, the female attended the Real Canadian Superstore in Chatham, the female attempted to leave the store without paying for the items she had just selected. The female was observed by Loss Prevention and confronted upon departure, the female returned the items upon demand and was trespassed from the property.
On September 13th, 2023, the same female returned The Real Canadian Superstore, selected a number of items, placed the items in her bag and proceeded to leave the store without paying for the items. The female was confronted by staff and returned the items upon demand.
Police confirmed the identity and located the accused, the 62-year-old Chatham female was arrested and charged with one count of Theft Under $5000.00. She was transported to police headquarters and later released with conditions and a future court date of October 23rd, 2023.
Man arrested for Breach of Conditional Sentence CK23048599
At approximately 11:30 p.m., an off-duty officer observed a man lying in the road near their residence. The off-duty officer determined the male was okay; however, intoxicated and fell off his pedal scooter.
Through further investigation police identified the male, determined the male had struck a parked truck, and believed the male to be intoxicated. Police learned the male was also bound by a probation conditional sentence with a curfew of 9:00 p.m.
The 23-year-old Chatham man was arrested for one count of Breach of Conditional Sentence Order and remanded back to custody.
There accused did not sustain any injuries and only minor damage to the parked truck.
