The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 156 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Five people were arrested, and four people were arrested on outstanding warrants.
Serious Motor Vehicle Collision CK23052016
On Wednesday, November 9th, 2023, at approximately 9:25am the Chatham-Kent Police Service received numerous 911 calls regarding a motor vehicle collision at McFarlane Ave and Beth Crescent in Chatham. Emergency services responded to the scene.
Upon investigation, it was determined the cyclist was riding their bicycle westbound on McFarlane Ave when the motor vehicle driving southbound on Melrose Drive approached the yield sign at the intersection and began turning east when the motor vehicle immediately stuck the cyclist. Civilians arrived on scene and attempted to free the cyclist from under the front of the motor vehicle; however, while attempting to free the cyclist the motor vehicle proceeded forward further trapping and injuring the cyclist.
The cyclist has been transported to London Health Sciences Centre with life threatening injuries and the driver of the motor vehicle did not sustain any injuries.
Out of respect for those involved, the names of the parties involved will not be released at this time.

Man arrested on Outstanding Warrant CK23058048
Yesterday afternoon at approximately 1:30p.m. police located the male at an address on Water Street in the town of Florence. Officers confirmed the man was currently wanted on an outstanding warrant for Assault Cause Bodily Harm and Assault with a Weapon.
In connection with a separate incident, police additionally charged the male with two counts of Utter Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm and Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle.
The 23-year-old Highgate man currently faces the following charges: Assault Cause Bodily Harm, Assault with a Weapon, two counts of Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm and Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle.
The accused was arrested for the above-mentioned offences, transported to police headquarters, and later released with a future court date of December 11th, 2023.
Recovered Stolen Vehicle CK23058164
On Thursday November 9th, at approximately 3:50 a.m. police were dispatched to an address on Harwich Road, regarding the theft of motor vehicle that had occurred within the last 10 minutes.
Police quickly located and observed the vehicle in a nearby town, a traffic stop was initiated when the vehicle fled from police. The vehicle was later located again abandoned in the area of Wallace Street in Wallaceburg.
The registered owner has been notified and the truck has been towed from the location.
