The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 185 calls for service in the past 24 hours. Seven people were arrested, and four were on outstanding warrants.
Man Charged with Dangerous Driving CK23011099
On March 6, 2023, at 3:57 a.m., police observed a suspicious vehicle leaving a business on Victoria Road in Thamesville.
Police followed the vehicle at a distance before attempting to conduct a traffic stop on Fuller Street in Dresden. The vehicle failed to stop while police continued to follow. The vehicle drove to the Dresden Cemetery, where the two occupants fled on foot.
The Chatham-Kent Caine Unit was deployed and located one man in the wooded area. The man was identified as the driver of the vehicle. Upon search and incident to arrest, the man was found possessing counterfeit American money. It was also confirmed the man was bound by the conditions of a release order and a probation order.
The 37-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, possession of counterfeit money, failing to comply with a release order and failing to comply with a probation order. He was transported to police headquarter and held pending a bail hearing. He was remanded into custody.
Man Arrested for Shoplifting CK23011228
At 6:46 p.m., police responded to a theft investigation on Wellington Street West in Chatham.
The man was observed removing merchandise from the store shelves and attempting to leave without paying. The man was detained by store security until police arrived.
The 27-year-old Chatham man was charged with theft and possession of the stolen property. He was released with a future court date of April 17, 2023.
Man Arrested for Impaired Driving CK23011246
At 8:18 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Erie Street in Wheatley. It was reported a vehicle had struck two parked Canada Post vehicles and then came to rest in a ditch.
Police arrived on the scene and believed the driver to be under the influence of alcohol. The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters for breath tests.
Francisco Neufeld, 33 years of Leamington, was charged with having a blood alcohol level exceeding the legal limit. He was released with conditions and a future court date of April 3, 2023.
