The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 157 calls for service in the past 24 hours. Five people were arrested and two were on outstanding warrants.
Man and Woman Arrested for Bail Violations CK23015150
On March 30, 2023, at 8:40 a.m. police were alerted to two individuals sleeping in a vehicle parked in a hotel parking lot on Grand Avenue East in Chatham.
Through investigation police learned the woman was on several conditions including not to associate with the man, remain inside her residence between specified hours, not to possess weapons, controlled substances, and paraphernalia. The man was also on numerous conditions including not to possess any weapons, controlled substances, or paraphernalia.
Police attempted to arrest the man who became uncooperative and confrontational. After a struggle, police successfully took the man in custody. Upon a search incident to arrest the man was found possessing suspected cocaine and a box of ammunition. Both were transported to police headquarters.
The 38-year-old Chatham man was charged with possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, facilitating a breach, resisting arrest and three counts of failing to comply with a release order. He was released with conditions and a future court date of May 4, 2023
The 35-year-old Chatham woman was charged with seven counts of failing to comply with a release order. She was released with conditions and a future court date of May 4, 2023.
Man Arrested on a Warrant CK23015163
At 9:25 a.m., police responded to suspicious activity on Grand Avenue West in Chatham.
Police located the man and learned he was wanted on an outstanding warrant issued by the Ontario Provincial Police Essex detachment.
The 42-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and turned over to the OPP.
Man Arrested for Failing to Identify Himself CK23015171
At 10:06 p.m., police responded to a man trespassing investigation at a building on Wellington Street East in Chatham.
Upon arrival, police located the man and learned he was trespassed from the property the day earlier. The man refused to identify himself and was arrested. Once his identity was confirmed, he was released with a Provincial Offences Notice.
The 51-year-old Chatham man was charged with trespassing.
