Chatham-Kent, Ontario: The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 180 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Seven people were arrested, and one was on outstanding warrants.
Man Arrested for Dangerous Driving CK23062544
At 9:08 a.m., while on general patrol, an officer observed a vehicle travelling west on Talbot Trail near McPherson Road near Morpeth. The officer confirmed the vehicle had been stolen that morning from St. Thomas.
The officer conducted a traffic stop; the driver failed to stop for police at first, but after a short distance, the vehicle pulled over, and the man exited the vehicle.
The 28-year-old Ontario man was charged with possession of stolen property over $5000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, operating a motor vehicle while prohibited under the Criminal Code of Canada, and mischief. He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with driving while under suspension. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing. The man will also face charges laid by the St. Thomas Police Service regarding the theft.
Woman Arrested for Bail Violations CK23062546
On December 6, 2023, at 4:46 a.m., the woman was arrested for intimate partner violence offences and released with a condition prohibiting her from communicating with the victim.
At 9:11 p.m., officers responded to the victim’s home and learned the woman had been calling and messaging him. The woman was contacted by telephone and advised she would be charged for the violation.
On December 7, 2023, at 9:22 a.m., the woman turned herself in to the police.
The 28-year-old Chatham woman was charged with failing to comply with an undertaking. She was held pending a bail hearing.
Woman Arrested for Theft CK23062562
At 11:30 a.m., police responded to Shoppers Drug Mart on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg for a theft investigation.
Upon arrival, police learned on December 6, 2023, the woman had been arrested and charged with theft at the exact location. She was released with conditions prohibiting her from entering the store. On this day, she was observed entering the store, removing items, and leaving without paying.
Officers located the woman a short distance away and arrested her.
The 25-year-old Chatham-Kent woman was charged with failing to comply with an undertaking, theft and possession of stolen property. She was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
Woman Arrested for Impaired Driving CK23062596
At 2:42 p.m., police received information a woman travelling from Chatham to Tilbury on Queens Line was driving impaired.
Officers attended the area and located the vehicle travelling south on Ella Street in Tilbury. The officer conducted a traffic stop at King & Whittle Road. The officer believed the woman was driving while impaired. A roadside breath test was administered, and the woman was arrested. She was transported to police headquarters for further breath tests.
The 56-year-old Chatham woman was charged with failing or refusing to comply with a breath demand. She was released with conditions and a future court date of December 18, 2023.
Man Arrested for Bail Violations CK23062665
On November 4, 2023, the courts released the man with conditions prohibiting him from contacting or being within a specific distance of the victim or any place she is known to live, work or go to school.
On December 7, 2023, at 10:07 p.m., police responded to the victim’s Wallaceburg home and learned the man had shown up there and made attempts to speak with her. The man left before the police arrived.
At 11:28 p.m., police responded to the victim’s home again as the man had returned. Police arrived and arrested the man.
The 22-year-old Walpole Island man was charged with four counts of failing to comply with a release order. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
