The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 187 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Ten people were arrested, and nine were on outstanding warrants.
Man Arrested for Failing to Attend Court CK23040074
At 7:40 a.m., police responded to a business on Heritage Road in Chatham for an unwanted person on the premises.
An officer attended and located the man. The officer confirmed the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court after being arrested and charged with theft and possession of stolen property in March 2023.
The 38-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and transported to police headquarters. He was held pending a bail hearing.
Man Arrested for Assault CK23040198
On June 18, 2023, at 1:40 a.m., police responded to a business on St. Clair Street in Chatham for an assault investigation.
Police learned a physical altercation occurred between two men, requiring medical attention for their injuries. Through investigation, video evidence and the severity of the injuries sustained, the officer formed grounds to arrest both men.
On August 2, 2023, at 7:33 p.m. the 21-year-old Chatham man turned himself into the police. He was arrested and charged with assault. He was processed at police headquarters and released with conditions and a future court date of September 11, 2023.
Man Arrested for Intimate Partner Violence CK23040217
At 8:54 p.m., police responded to a domestic disturbance on Park Street in Chatham.
Through investigation, police learned the man confronted his stepson regarding cannabis consumption. In speaking with his stepson, who was in the company of a friend, the man attempted to take away his stepson’s paraphernalia. The friend tried to run away with one of the items, resulting in a physical altercation.
The man confronted his spouse inside the home. They argued about the stepson, which escalated when the man grabbed the woman, causing her to fall and hit her head. The woman received medical attention from EMS.
The 46-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with two counts of assault. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
Man Arrested for Driving While Prohibited CK23040256
On August 3, 2023, at 8:43 p.m., while on general patrol, an officer observed a pick-up truck without a rear license plate travelling on Queen Street North in Tilbury.
The officer conducted a traffic stop and discovered the man was prohibited from driving under the Criminal Code of Canada and had a suspended driver’s license under the Highway Traffic Act. The man was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court related to a probation breach.
The 42-year-old Coatsworth man was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while prohibited and driving under suspension. The man was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
The vehicle was towed and impounded for 45 days.
