Police Investigating a Serious Motor Vehicle Collision on Grand Avenue West, Chatham

On Saturday, August 26, 2023 around 4:15 p.m. emergency personnel responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Grand Avenue West at Woods Street in Chatham. The collision involved two vehicles and a pedestrian.
Preliminary investigation reveals that a driver of red pickup truck was proceeding eastbound on Grand Avenue West. The truck then proceeded over the curb and onto the sidewalk on the south side of the roadway. The vehicle struck a 19-year-old pedestrian walking on the sidewalk. The pedestrian received only minor injuries. The truck proceeded to strike a utility pole, veer back onto Grand Avenue and collide with a westbound GMC Envoy vehicle, which was travelling westbound on Grand Ave West. The collision caused both vehicles to strike another utility pole just east of Woods Street. The driver of the truck, a 40-year-old Comber man suffered non-life threatening injuries. The passenger of the truck, a 41-year-old Comber woman suffered serious injuries and was transported to Windsor Regional Hospital. The driver of the Envoy, a 69-year-old Chatham man suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance. His passenger, a 65-year-old Chatham woman suffered serious injuries and was transported to London Health Sciences Centre where she is listed in stable condition.
