Chatham-Kent, Ontario: The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 166 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Three people were arrested.
Man Arrested for Weapon Offences CK24039819/CK24039822
At 1:05 p.m., police responded to a residential panic alarm at a home on McNaughton Avenue East in Chatham.
Upon arrival, officers observed an individual inside the home brandishing a shotgun. In the interest of public safety, officers took cover and secured the surrounding area.
Through effective negotiation, officers were able to persuade the man to surrender the firearm and exit the residence. This conversation resulted in a peaceful resolution to the incident.
Further investigation indicated that the man was experiencing the effects of an illicit substance, which led him to believe there were other people within the home who intended to cause him harm.
After ensuring the safety of the premises, officers conducted a thorough search of the home, obtaining judicial authority to seize any additional firearms present.
The 55-year-old Chatham man was transported to police headquarters, where he was released with conditions and a future court date of October 7, 2024. He has been charged with careless storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm at an unauthorized place.
The successful and peaceful conclusion of this incident can be attributed to the effective communication, and collaboration among the various units involved.
Man Arrested for Public Intoxication CK24039828
At 2:59 p.m., police responded to Main Street East in Ridgetown to conduct a well-being check on the man. Information was received the man had been screaming for an extended period of time.
Officers attended and found the man intoxicated and unable to care for himself.
The 45-year-old Ridgetown man was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was held until he was sober.
Man Arrested for Bail Violations CK24039909
On August 22, 2024, at 1:31 a.m., police located the man in the area of Talbot Street and Margaret Street in Blenheim.
The officer confirmed the man was bound by a curfew condition and arrested him.
The 41-year-old Blenheim man was transported to police headquarters, where he was released with conditions and a future court date of September 23, 2024. He has been charged with failing to comply with an undertaking.
