The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 183 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Five people were arrested, and two were on outstanding warrants.
Woman Arrested for Theft CK23041627
At 11:08 a.m., the police received a report regarding a theft incident at a residence on Grand Avenue East in Chatham. Upon investigation, it was discovered that a gaming station and games had been stolen from the victim’s home and subsequently pawned at a local pawn shop.
The victim provided the name of a woman known to her as a suspect in the theft. Further investigation led the police to locate the stolen items, which were returned to the victim. The woman named by the victim was identified as the individual who had pawned the stolen items.
Subsequently, the woman was located and arrested by the police.
The 47-year-old Chatham-Kent woman was charged with theft and possessing stolen property. She was transported to the police headquarters and released with conditions and a court date of September 11, 2023.
Man Arrested for Drug Offences CK23041639
At 11:44 a.m., the police received a report regarding a stolen bicycle posted on Facebook. The bicycle was allegedly spotted under the Third Street Bridge. In response, officers attended in the area.
Upon arrival, the officers located the man. Officers confirmed the man was wanted due to an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court. The warrant was related to a wire theft from Canadian Pacific Railway property in May 2022.
While arresting the man, a search was conducted as per standard protocol. This search led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine in the man’s possession.
The 38-year-old Chatham-Kent man was charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to traffic. Following his arrest, he was transported to the police headquarters and released with conditions and a court date of September 7, 2023.
Woman Arrested for Assault CK23041745
At 11:21 p.m., the police responded to Dover Court in Chatham for an assault investigation.
Police discovered a woman had driven to the Dover Court address with a third party. The woman exited the vehicle and physically attacked the victim, requiring intervention to separate them. Before the police arrived, the woman left the scene. Officers confirmed the woman was under a release order with conditions prohibiting communication with the victim, being within 100 meters of the Dover Court address, and consuming alcohol.
Subsequently, the police located her at her residence. Based on observations, officers believed she had been consuming alcohol. She was arrested and transported to police headquarters.
The 23-year-old Chatham woman was charged with assault causing bodily harm and three counts of failing to comply with a release order. She was transported to the police headquarters and detained pending a bail hearing.
