Collision leads to Charges CK23015402
Yesterday around 2:30 p.m. police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Degge Street in Chatham.
Police arrived on scene and spoke to the driver at fault of the collision. Through investigation, police believed the man was driving while under the influence of alcohol. As well, police learned the man had identified himself with a false name. Eventually, the identity of the man was confirmed and police discovered that the man was bound by court conditions to not communicate with a female or attend a residence on Degge Street. The man was found to be failing to comply with his court conditions as a result of this investigation.
The 63-year-old Chatham man was arrested and transported to police headquarters for breath tests. He was charged with Impaired Driving, Obstruct Police and two counts of Failing to Comply. The man was released when sober with a future court date of April 17th, 2023.
Man Charged with being Intoxicated in a Public Place CK23015393
Around 1:45 p.m. yesterday afternoon, police responded to the report of an unwanted person sleeping in a business on Victoria Road in Ridgetown. Police attended the business and located the man in an intoxicated state.
For his own safety, the intoxicated man was taken into custody as he was unable to care for himself. The 33-year-old Chatham man was charged with being intoxicated in a public place. He was released when sober.
Man Charged with Theft CK23015356
Yesterday morning, a man stole a bicycle from the front of a business near the police station in Wallaceburg. The man was located later in the afternoon by police in possession of the stolen bicycle. The 28-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by crime. He was released pending a future court date of April 17th, 2023.
