Chatham-Kent, Ontario: The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 171 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Ten people were arrested.
Man Charged with Impaired Operation (CK24004602)
On January 31st, 2024 at approximately 6:37 p.m., the Chatham-Kent Police Service received a report of a two-vehicle collision on Longwoods Road near Caledonia Road. While responding to the collision, police learned that driver of one of the vehicles had fled, failing to remain at the scene of the collision. Police were able to locate the driver a short distance away on Darrell Road, where a traffic stop was conducted on his vehicle. Through investigation, police believed the driver to be intoxicated by alcohol, at which point he was placed under arrest for operation while impaired.
The man was subsequently transported to police headquarters where he refused to provide breath samples to a qualified technician as demanded. The 56-year-old Glencoe, ON man was consequently charged with three Criminal Code offences – Refusal to Comply with Demand, Operation While Impaired, Fail to Stop at Accident – as well as several other Liquor Licence and Control Act offences. He was later released on an Undertaking with a future court date.
Man Arrested for Breaching Probation Order (CK24004640)
On February 1st, 2024 at approximately 12:21 a.m., members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service attended an address on Wedgewood Avenue in response to a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers learned that one of the occupants present was bound by a probation order with conditions preventing him from attending this address, and from associating with the homeowner. The 47-year-old Chatham man was subsequently arrested by police and charged with Fail to Comply with Probation Order. He was transported to police headquarters where he was later released on an Undertaking with conditions and a future court date.
Man Arrested on Outstanding Warrant (CK24004625)
On January 31st, 2024 at approximately 6:26 p.m., a concerned resident of Canal Street E in Tilbury contacted police to report two suspicious men in her neighbourhood. These individuals, unknown to the resident, were approaching pedestrians and vehicles in the area attempting to purchase illicit substances. Through investigation, police were able to identify both men and later located them at an address on Young Street in Tilbury. One of the men was found to have an outstanding warrant in effect with Windsor Police Service. The 28-year-old Tilbury man was ultimately arrested on the strength of this warrant, with his custody being transferred to Windsor Police Service a short time later.
