The Major Crime Section is comprised of one Inspector, one Detective Sergeant, two Detectives, 8 full-time constables and one Administrative Support Civilian. One of the Detectives assigned to the unit is a qualified Forensic Polygraph Examiner.

This Section is responsible for investigations of serious benchmark offences as defined by the Ontario Major Case Model. These offences include Homicide, Attempt Homicide, Aggravated Assault, Sexual Assault, Criminal Harassment, Abduction, Robbery, and Missing Persons. The Officers selected to work in this Unit receive specialised training, work closely with the Crown Attorney’s office, Community Agencies and other experts to ensure successful conclusions to these often complex investigations. The Major Crime Section recognises that violent crimes against persons have the greatest impact on the members of our community, resulting in fear, deterioration in the quality of life and public safety. Investigating these offences requires commitment, compassion, innovation, expertise, current technology and the management of available resources.

The Major Crime Section is committed to thorough & professional investigations which successfully solve major and complex crimes, reduce instances of serious and violent crime, while mitigating the effects on victims and the community at large.
