The Child Abuse Investigation Team is a working partnership between the Chatham-Kent Police Service and the Linck Child, Youth, and Family Supports. The team consists of police officers and child protection workers, all trained in the dynamics of investigating child abuse. CKPS and Linck members form an investigative partnership conducting joint investigations. This helps to eliminate repeated interviews, which are difficult for children, and ultimately expedites a conclusion that helps the child experiencing abuse.
The role of each investigator is different. Police officers are focused on the criminal aspect, while the child protection workers are focused on protection issues. The objective, however, is the same; stop the abuse that is occurring and protect the child from being exposed to further abuse.
The Child Abuse Investigation Team investigates matters referred to them through both CKPS and LINCK.
