Chatham-Kent, Ontario – On October 20, 2026, police investigated reports involving a 37-year-old male who had been protesting near Ursuline College Chatham. Officers reviewed concerns about the male’s interactions with students and assessed information that had been reported at that time. The investigation did not identify a credible threat to the school.
During the October 20 investigation, police addressed the reported interaction and identified the male involved. The evidence available at that time did not establish grounds for the charges that were later laid.
In the days that followed, information related to the incident continued to circulate through social media posts, videos, screenshots, and group chats. As the information spread, additional rumours and unverified claims began to circulate throughout the school community.
On October 30, 2026, the Chatham-Kent Police Service received further reports regarding information being shared online suggesting a possible shooting threat at Ursuline College Chatham. Officers attended the school, spoke with administration, students, and other involved parties, and reviewed the information being circulated.
The investigation determined there was no immediate threat to the school and no individual posing a danger on school property. Police did not identify a credible threat against Ursuline College Chatham.
While investigating the source of the rumours, officers obtained additional information about the male’s activities and interactions near the school. That investigation led officers to believe the male had breached several court-ordered prohibitions.
As a result, a 37-year-old Chatham male was arrested and charged with:
· Three counts of Failing to Comply with a Prohibition Regarding Children by Attending School Grounds, contrary to court-ordered conditions prohibiting him from being on school property;
· Two counts of Failing to Comply with a Prohibition Regarding Children by Using the Internet or Social Media, contrary to court-ordered conditions prohibiting him from accessing digital networks; and
· Three counts of Failing to Comply with a Prohibition Regarding Children by Communicating with a Youth and Using Electronic Devices, contrary to court-ordered conditions restricting contact and communication with persons under the age of 16.
The charges are not related to a credible threat against the school.
The accused was arrested and held for bail. As a result, he was remanded into custody until his next court appearance on November 2, 2026.
