The Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) responded to a variety of incidents over the past 24 hours. Below is a summary of the key events.
Impaired by Drugs – CK25054194
Date: September 8, 2025, Time: 15:54 hrs., Location: St. Clair Street, Chatham
On September 8, 2025, at approximately 15:54 hrs, the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a traffic complaint regarding a possible impaired driver. A complainant stated that the accused observed a male individual stumbling to and from a garbage bin placing several empty alcohol containers inside before returning to his vehicle in a parking lot. He then proceeded to drive onto St. Clair Street, Chatham.
Officers located the vehicle which pulled into the parking lot of a local business and conducted a roadside investigation.
As a result of police observation and the administration of a Standard Field Sobriety Test, police formed grounds to believe that the driver, a 31-year-old male from Chatham-Kent, was impaired by drugs.
The individual was arrested and transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where he underwent further evaluation by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). The evaluation determined that the individual was impaired by drugs.
He was subsequently, charged with the following offence:
• Operation while Impaired – Drugs
He was later released with a scheduled future court date of September 25, 2025.
Robbery/ Recovered Stolen Vehicle – CK25054343
Date: September 9, 2025, Time: 0408 hrs., Location: Stewart Line Wallaceburg
On September 9, 2025, at approximately 0408 hrs, Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a break and enter. The complainant, 38-year-old male from Chatham advised that he was alerted to suspicious activity outside of his residence in Wallaceburg. Upon investigation, he observed individuals inside his truck, taking several items while another vehicle, was parked nearby. This vehicle was reported as stolen.
While attempting to prevent the theft of his vehicle, the complainant was assaulted and sprayed with bear spray which allowed the suspects to flee on foot into a nearby corn field. No additional medical attention was required.
Officers assisted by the K9 Unit and a Drone Operator, tracked and located the suspects shortly after. A 37-year-old male from Chatham was found hiding in a corn field. The individual was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Count 1: Theft under $5,000.00
- Count 2: Possession of stolen property under $5,000.00
- Count 3: Possession of stolen property over $5,000.00
- Count 4: Robbery with violence
- Count 5: Assault with a weapon
- Count 6: Possession of Weapon for Dangerous purpose
- Count 7: Administer Noxious Substance
A second accused, a 30-year-old female from Wallaceburg was also located and arrested on First Street, Wallaceburg. She was charged with the following offences:
- Count 1: Theft under $5,000.00
- Count 2: Possession of stolen property under $5,000.00
- Count 3: Possession of stolen property over $5,000.00 x2
Both individuals were transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where they are currently being held for bail.
Impaired – CK25054313
Date: September 9, 2025, Time: 0206 hrs., Location: Queen Street, Chatham
On September 9, 2025, at approximately 0206 hrs. Chatham-Kent Police Service officers conducted a traffic stop as part of an ongoing road safety initiative.
The driver, a 22-year-old male from Thamesville, failed a roadside screening device. Subsequently, he was arrested and charged with the following offence:
- Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration Over 80 mg
He was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters for additional testing. The individual was released with conditions and a future court date of September 25, 2025.
