The Chatham‑Kent Chapter of Racing Against Drugs (RAD) is pleased to announce the return of its annual youth education program, running April 13–17, 2026, at Erickson Arena.

Racing Against Drugs is an RCMP developed, community‑based drug and alcohol awareness program that uses the excitement of auto racing to deliver important safety and healthy‑living messages to youth. Each day, approximately 220 Grade 5 students will attend, with students from 33 schools across Chatham-Kent participating throughout the week.

Throughout the event, students rotate through interactive “pit stops” led by community partners. Topics include drug and alcohol awareness, the dangers of smoking and vaping, personal and injury‑prevention safety, and healthy and mindful lifestyle choices. Each day concludes with racing activities designed to promote teamwork, school pride, and positive decision‑making.

Members of the media are invited to attend the event on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

“This program allows us to engage students in a fun and memorable way while reinforcing critical safety and prevention messages,” said Amanda Wyatt, Chairperson of Racing Against Drugs – Chatham‑Kent Chapter. “The support of our community partners helps ensure this important program continues for local students.”

The Racing Against Drugs program relies on community support and sponsorships to operate and is provided to schools at no cost.

This event is being coordinated with community volunteers and staff from Chatham-Kent Community Health Centre, Chatham-Kent EMS, Chatham-Kent Fire & Rescue, Chatham-Kent Mental Health Table, Chatham-Kent Police Service, Chatham-Kent Ontario Health Team, Chatham-Kent Public Health, Lambton-Kent District School Board, Restorative Justice Chatham-Kent, and St. Clair Catholic District School Board.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service is proud to support initiatives like Racing Against Drugs that promote education, prevention, and positive choices among youth. By working collaboratively with community partners, this program continues to empower students with the knowledge and confidence to make safe and informed decisions, helping to build a stronger and healthier community for the future.
