The Chatham-Kent Police Service participated in Operation Impact over the Thanksgiving long weekend, joining police services across the country in promoting safe driving and reducing serious collisions on our roadways.

Throughout the long weekend, officers conducted proactive traffic enforcement across the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, including seven RIDE checks at various locations. These enforcement efforts resulted in 163 Highway Traffic Act violations.

Officers also removed several high-risk drivers from local roadways, including:

  • Two suspended drivers
  • One prohibited driver
  • One stunt driver
  • One impaired driver

In addition, two other drivers received seven-day driver’s licence suspensions for alcohol-related offences.

Operation Impact focuses on driving behaviours that place motorists and other road users at risk, including impaired driving, aggressive driving, distracted driving, and failing to properly use seatbelts.

“These results demonstrate the importance of continued proactive traffic enforcement throughout Chatham-Kent. The seven RIDE checks conducted over the long weekend, combined with targeted traffic enforcement, allowed our officers to identify and remove drivers who posed a risk to others. We appreciate the efforts of our members and the many drivers who made safe and responsible choices,” said Staff Sergeant Jason Herder.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service reminds motorists that road safety is a shared responsibility. Drive sober, slow down, remain focused on the road, buckle up, and make choices that help everyone arrive safely.

Road safety starts with each of us.
