The Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) responded to a variety of incidents over the past 72 hours. Below is a summary of the key events.

Arrest/Shoplifting – CK26016360

Date: March 6, 2026, Time: 09:55hrs., Location: St. Clair Street, Chatham

On March 6, 2026, at approximately 09:55hrs., a Chatham-Kent Police Service officer observed a male suspect leaving a business on St. Clair Street, Chatham without paying for merchandise.

The officer detained the suspect, a 43-year-old male from Chatham-Kent. The stolen merchandise was recovered and returned.

The male was charged with the following:

  • Count 1 – Theft Under $5,000
  • Count 2 – Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

The individual was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters where he was released with conditions and a scheduled future court date of June 8, 2026.

Arrest, Assault – CK26016518

Date: March 7, 2026, Time: 01:04 hrs., Location: Grand Avenue East, Chatham

On March 7, 2026, at approximately 01:04 hrs., the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a disturbance at a local business on Grand Avenue East, Chatham.

A male who was intoxicated became agitated with staff who were attempting to have him leave the establishment.  The investigation revealed that the male assaulted a staff member before fleeing the area.

Officers located the suspect nearby and he was subsequently charged with the following offence:

The accused was charged with the following:

Count 1 – Assault

The individual was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he assaulted a police officer and caused damage inside a holding cell. The accused was additionally charged with the following offences:

  • Count 2 – Assault Peace Officer
  • Count 3 – Mischief Under $5,000

The individual was released with conditions and given a scheduled future court date of June 9, 2026.

Arrest, B&E (IPV)- CK26016561

Date: March 7, 2026, Time: 7:47 hrs., Location: Chatham

On March 7, 2026, at approximately 7:47 hrs., the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a break and enter incident at a residence in Chatham.

Investigations revealed that a 31-year-old male accused had attended a 32-year-old female victim residence, kicked open the door and damaged property inside the home.

The accused was located and charged with the following offences:

  • Count 1- Break and Entering a dwelling house – commit indictable offence
  • Count 2- Mischief – destroys or damages property

The individual was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where, he was released with conditions and a scheduled future court date of June 9, 2026.

MVC, Assault – CK26016739/CK26016746/CK26016747

Date: March 7, 2026, Time: 22:14 hrs., Location: Bloomfield Road

On March 7, 2026, at approximately 22:14 hrs., Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a collision on Bloomfield Road, Chatham.

Investigations revealed that the driver, a 43-year-old male from Blenheim and a 28-year-old female from Harwich Township were in breach of the court-ordered conditions that prohibited them from communication with each other.

During the investigation it was revealed that the female assaulted the driver and grabbed the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and collide with a hydro pole.

The female accused was subsequently charged with the following:

  • Count 1: Fail to comply with undertaking
  • Count 2: Utter threats to cause death
  • Count 3: Dangerous operation
  • Count 4: Mischief endangering life

She was transported to the hospital for minor injuries. The accused was arrested at the hospital and was released with a scheduled future court date of March 31, 2026.

B&E – CK26016797

Date: March 8, 2026, Time: 05:51 hrs., Location: Story Street, Blenheim

On March 8, 2026, at approximately 05:51 hrs., the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to an alarm at a commercial property on Story Street in Blenheim.

Police entered the building and located a 43-year-old male from Blenheim attempting to hide equipment. Subsequently the individual was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Count 1: Break, Enter a Place – With Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence 
  • Count 2: Possession of Break-in Instrument 

The individual waws transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he was released with conditions and a scheduled court date.
