The Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) responded to a variety of incidents over the past 24 hours. Below is a summary of the key events.
Arrest/Over 80 – CK26019248
Date: March 17, 2026, Time: 21:46 hrs., Location: Queen Street, Chatham
On March 17, 2026, at approximately 21:46 hrs., while Chatham-Kent Police Service officers were conducting Mandatory Alcohol Screening, as part of proactive traffic enforcement efforts, police observed a vehicle travelling southbound on Third Street at a high rate of speed.
The accused entered the intersection at Wellington Street West while the traffic signal was yellow and completed the turn after it had turned red. Officers conducted a traffic stop on Queen Street, Chatham.
During the investigation, the driver, a 22-year-old male from Chatham, displayed signs of impairment and a demand was made for a roadside breath sample, resulting in a fail.
The accused was arrested and transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters for further breath testing. The results confirmed blood alcohol concentrations exceeding the legal limit.
As a result, the accused was charged with the following offences:
- Count 1: Amber light – Fail to stop
- Count 2: Operation while impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
The individual was later released with conditions and a future court date of May 25, 2026.
Arrest/Mischief – CK26019259
Date: March 17, 2026, Time: 18:30 hrs., Location: Park Street, Chatham
On March 17, 2026, at approximately 18:30 hrs., Chatham-Kent Police Service officers responded to a noise complaint at a residence on Park Street, Chatham.
Upon arrival, officers could hear loud music coming from the residence from a considerable distance. The noise was determined to be at an unreasonable level and was interfering with neighbouring residents.
The accused were identified as a 63-year-old male and a 48-year-old female, both from Chatham.
Further investigation revealed that the individuals were both bound by prior release conditions, which included a requirement not to cause or permit unreasonable noise.
As a result of the investigation, both individuals were charged with the following:
- Count 1: Mischief
- Count 2: Failure to Comply with a Recognizance
The co-accused refused to exit the residence when officers advised her of the charges. Subsequently a warrant was issued for her arrest.
The male accused was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters and was later released with a future court date of June 23, 2026.
Arrest/IPV Assault – CK26019305
Date: March 17, 2026, Time: 04:06hrs., Location: Queen Street, Chatham
On March 17, 2026, at approximately 4:06 hrs., the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a dispute between a male and female on Queen Street, Chatham. Officers attended the area and located the individuals at a business on Queen Street.
Through the investigation, it was revealed that during the interaction the accused, a 36-year-old female physically assaulted a 43-year-old male, both from Chatham-Kent. No serious injuries were reported.
Officers also observed damage to the property at the location.
As a result of the investigation, the accused was charged with the following offences
- Count 1 – Assault
- Count 2 – Mischief – Destroys or Damages Property
The individual was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where she is currently held for bail.
R.I.D.E PROGRAM – CK26019095
The Chatham-Kent Police Service conducted several RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) programs throughout the municipality, including in Chatham, Blenheim, Ridgetown and Wallaceburg.
As part of these proactive enforcement efforts, officers checked a total of 576 vehicles. During the initiative, 7 Highway Traffic Act warnings were issued and 1 Approved Screening Device (ASD) was used.
