The Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) responded to a variety of incidents over the past 24 hours. Below is a summary of the key events, including arrests, investigations, and other notable occurrences.
Weapons – CK25045447
Date: July 31, 2025, Time: 1430 hrs, Location: Tweedsmuir Avenue West, Chatham
On July 31, 2025, the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a weapon-related incident. A 34-year-old female from Chatham reported being threatened with a crossbow by a 24-year-old male also from Chatham.
Upon arrival, police secured the area and attended the scene on foot to set up containment around the residence. Officers directed the occupants to exit the residence due to the safety concerns. The male individual refused to comply, which prompted officers to deploy a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW), to facilitate a safe arrest. The individual later surrendered without incident and was arrested.
Further investigation revealed that the individual had made prior threats to others within the residence, including pointing a loaded crossbow towards individuals. It was also determined that the individual is currently bound by conditions prohibiting the possession of weapons as well.
He is currently facing the following charges:
- Count 1: Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Count 2: Assault with a Weapon
- Count 3: Failure to comply with Release Order- other than to attend court
- Count 4: Possession of Ammunition contrary to a Probation Order
- Count 5: Adult Uttering Threats- Cause Death or Bodily Harm
Subsequently he was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where he is currently in custody and is held for bail.
Impaired Driving – CK25045451
Date: July 31, 2025, Time: 14:55 hrs, Location: Queen Street, Chatham
On July 31, 2025, at approximately 1455 hrs, the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of suspicious behavior involving two individuals observed nodding off in a local restaurant on Queen Street, Chatham. A concerned complainant reported that the two individuals then entered a vehicle in the parking lot.
Upon arrival, officers located two individuals. One person, a 47-year-old male from Chatham, was arrested and charged with the following:
- Count 1: Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
The individual was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where he underwent a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) evaluation. The evaluation confirmed that he was impaired by drugs.
He was later released with a schedule future court date of August 14, 2025, and turned over to the Ontario Provincial Police Service (OPP) in relation to an outstanding incident.
