The Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) responded to a variety of incidents over the past 24 hours. Below is a summary of the key events, including arrests, investigations, and other notable occurrences.
Assault/Breach – CK25041109
Date: July 14, 2025, Time: 7:32 hrs, Location: Grand Avenue West, Chatham
On July 14, 2025, at approximately 7:32 hrs, the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a disturbance involving a 50-year-old male from Chatham, who was in violation of his court-imposed conditions.
The individual had previously been ordered not to attend a local medical facility unless for a medical emergency or schedule appointment.
During the incident, the accused became verbally aggressive toward a security officer after being asked to leave the premises. The altercation escalated when the accused made threatening gestures and shouted at the officer.
Officers located the accused, a short distance away from the incident. He was charged with the following:
- Count 1: Fail to Comply Probation Order
- Count 2: Assault
He was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters and was released with a scheduled future court date of August 13, 2025.
Impaired Driving – CK25041225
Date: July 14, 2025, Time: 18:25 hrs, Location: St. Clair Street, Chatham
On July 14, 2025, at approximately 18:25 hrs, the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a traffic complaint regarding a driver operating a vehicle in an aggressive and reckless manner.
A pick-up truck was seen driving erratically Southbound on St. Clair, Chatham, striking curbs and failing to stop at several intersections. The driver was also reported to be honking and yelling at other motorists as well.
A short while later, the Chatham-Kent Police officers located the driver, a 49-year-old male from Chatham, at a residence in Chatham. He showed signed of impairment and refused to provide identification. Officers gave the individual several opportunities to provide the required documents, which he refused. The individual was advised he was obstructing police investigation and informed him that he would be arrested if he failed to comply. The individual also attempted to shut the door on officers. After speaking with the individual, police developed reasonable grounds to believe that the individual has been operating a motor vehicle while impaired.
The individual was arrested and is currently facing the following charges:
- Count 1: Obstruct peace officer
- Count 2: Operation While Impaired
- Count 3: Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Count 4: Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration Over 80
He was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters. He was released with conditions and a scheduled court date of July 30, 2025.
