The Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) responded to a variety of incidents over the past 72 hours. Below is a summary of the key events.

ABH (IPV) – CK26001863

Date: January 9, 2026, Time: 12:47 hrs, Location: Chatham

On January 9, 2026, the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of an Intimate Partner Violence.

Following an investigation, grounds were formed to believe multiple offences had occurred during previous incidents between a 28-year-old male from Tupperville and a 30-year-old female from Chatham. These incidents occurred between July 2024 and January 2026, including an incident in which the victim was choked during a dispute, as well as additional incidents involving physical assaults.

As a result of the investigation, officers formed grounds to arrest and charge the male with the following offences:

  • Assault Causing Bodily Harm (Choking)
  • Assault

The accused was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he later released with conditions and a scheduled court date of February 17, 2026.

Assault – CK26001822

Date: January 9, 2026, Time: 14:43 hrs, Location: Linden Street, Chatham.

On January 8, 2026, at approximately 14:43 hrs, Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of an assault at a retail store on St. Clair Street, Chatham. Officers were advised that a loss prevention officer had been involved in a physical confrontation with a customer and the suspect had left the area prior to police arrival.

Investigations revealed that the accused physically assaulted the victim and made verbal threats to cause bodily harm.

Through further investigation and the use of surveillance footage, officers were able to identify the suspect involved in the incident as a 28-year-old male from Chatham-Kent. Officers formed reasonable grounds to charge the individual for the following offences:

  • Assault x 2
  • Uttering Threats to Cause Bodily Harm

On January 9, 2026, at approximately 17:28 hrs, the accused was located and arrested by Chatham-Kent Police on Linden Street, Chatham.

The accused was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters and was later released with conditions and a scheduled court date of February 23, 2026.

Refuse ASD – CK26002171

Date: January 9, 2026, Time: 14:43 hrs, Location: St. Clair St. Chatham

On January 9, 2026, at approximately 20:30 hrs, police responded to a report of an unwanted person at a restaurant on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

The investigation revealed that a customer had refused to leave the drive-through and the individual left the property prior to police arrival.

At approximately 22:57 hrs, police were called back to the same restaurant after receiving another report that the same individual had returned and was causing a disturbance inside the business. Officers arrived shortly after and located the individual inside the restaurant.

Further investigations revealed that the accused, a 57-year-old male from Orford Township, had recently been operating a motor vehicle and officers observed signs of alcohol consumption.

An Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand was made to ensure public safety however, the individual refused to comply and he was subsequently arrested.

As a result of the investigation, the individual was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Refusal to Comply with a Demand
  • Being Intoxicated in a Public Place

The accused was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters and later released with conditions and a future court date of January 20, 2026.

Impaired/Over 80 – CK26002412

Date: January 10, 2026, Time: 20:13 hrs., Location: Schooner Court, Chatham

On January 10, 2026, at approximately 20:13 hrs, The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles on Grand Avenue East, Chatham.

Investigation revealed that a 30-year-old victim from Chatham had their vehicle struck while stopped at a red light. The driver, a 39-year-old male from Chatham, left the scene prior to police arrival. No injuries were reported.

Through investigation, officers located the driver on Schooner Court, Chatham and identified the driver as a 30-year-old male from Chatham who displayed signs of being impaired.

The individual was arrested and transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters for further breath testing, where he provided two samples above the legal limit.

He was charged with the following offences:

  • Impaired Operation
  • Operation While Over 80 mg

The accused was later released with conditions and a future court date of January 28, 2026.

Arrest/IPV – CK26002191

Date: January 10, 2026, Time: 00:53 hrs, Location: Chatham

On January 10, 2026, at approximately 00:53 hrs, Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of Intimate Partner Violence.

Investigations revealed that an unwanted individual, identified as a 26-year-old male from Harwich Township, was knocking on the door of a 26-yer old female from Chatham. The male left the area prior to police arrival.

Through investigation, it was revealed that the accused had repeatedly attended the complainant’s residence and continued to communicate despite being told the contact was unwelcomed.

Additionally, in August 2025, the accused physically assaulted the victim causing her to sustain minor injuries. It was also confirmed that the accused had previously been cautioned for criminal harassment in October 2025.

As a result of the investigation, the accused was charged with the following offences:

  • Criminal Harassment
  • Assault

The accused was arrested on January 10, 2026, at approximately 04:25 hours, and was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he is currently being held for bail.

Warrants – CK26002274

Date: January 11, 2026, Time: 10:39hrs, Location: Oil Heritage Road, Petrolia

On August 29, 2025, at approximately 19:23 hrs, Chatham-Kent Police Service Officers while on patrol in the area of Princess Street, Chatham, observed a male known to be wanted by police enter the driveway of a residence in Chatham. When officers attempted to place the male under arrest, he fled into the residence (CK25052034).

Police established containment around the residence while awaiting additional units. During this time, officers observed a woman repeatedly approaching a window of the residence and attempting to communicate with someone inside. She was directed to remain away from the residence but continued to linger near the window despite having no lawful reason to be there.

Additional officers arrived on scene and secured the perimeter. Shortly thereafter, the wanted male attempted to flee the residence by exiting through a window in an effort to evade police. The individual was arrested by police.

Further investigation revealed that the female had assisted the male in exiting the window in an effort to evade police.

As a result, a 43-year-old woman from Walpole Island was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Obstruct Peace Officer

She was released with a scheduled court date of September 30, 2025, which she failed to attend. A warrant was issued for her arrest.

On January 11, 2026, at approximately 10:39 hrs, officers with the Ontario Provincial Police in Petrolia arrested the accused on an endorsed warrant for Fail to Attend Court. She was released with a future court date of February 11, 2026.

Assault- CK26002637

Date: January 11, 2026, Time: 19:19hrs, Location: Raleigh Street, Chatham

On January 11, 2026, at approximately 19:19 hrs, police responded a report of threats and an assault at a residence in Chatham.

Investigation revealed that a youth was threatened and physically assaulted by a 53-year-old male from Chatham-Kent.

Further investigation revealed that the accused has a history of aggressive behaviour. Emergency medical services were requested due to the victim experiencing difficulty breathing.

As a result of the investigation, officers attended the residence and arrested the accused. He was charged with the following offence:

  • Assault

The individual was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he was later released with a future court date of February 12, 2026.

Impaired/Over 80 – CK26002678

Date: January 11, 2026, Time: 23:01 hrs., Location: CK26002678

On January 11, 2026, at approximately 23:01 hrs, the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Morris Line, Tilbury.

Officers attended the scene after receiving a 9-1-1 call from the driver, a 61-year-old female from Comber, who reported leaving the roadway and nearby bush.  The driver was unable to exit the vehicle.

Upon arrival, the individual displayed signs of impairment. She was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance by Emergency Medical Services with nonlife-threatening injuries. A breath demand was made and subsequent testing resulted in readings exceeding the legal limit.

As a result, the driver was charged with the following

  • Impaired While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

The accused was later released from the hospital with conditions and a future court date of January 28, 2026.
