The Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) responded to a variety of incidents over the past 72 hours. Below is a summary of the key events.
Mischief – CK26005700
Date: January 23, 2026 Time: 13:34 hrs. Location: Fourth Street, Chatham
On January 23, 2026, at approximately 13:34 hrs., members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a disturbance involving an individual screaming, swearing and impeding the ability of municipal workers to clear snow from the roadway on Fourth Street, Chatham.
Investigation revealed that the operator made efforts to drive away from the accused, a 41-year-old male from Chatham, who continued to follow the vehicle and strike the cab window.
The accused was arrested for preventing breach of peace. Further investigation also revealed that the accused had an outstanding warrant.
The individual was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where he caused damage to property inside the booking area.
The individual was also charged with the following offence:
- Mischief Under $5,000
The accused was transported to the South West Detention Centre where he is remanded until his next court appearance on January 29, 2026, by video.
Theft / Trespass to Property – CK26005755
Date: January 23, 2026 Time: 19:02 hrs. Location: St. Clair Street, Chatham
On January 23, 2026, at approximately 19:02 hrs., members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a theft at a business located on St. Clair Street, Chatham.
Investigation revealed that a 57-year-old female from Chatham concealed merchandise and attempted to leave the store without paying.
The individual was charged with the following offence
- Trespass to Property
Officers gave the individual a formal warning and she was released unconditionally.
Bail Violation – CK26005848
Date: January 24, 2026 Time: 04:14 hrs. Location: Princess Street, Chatham
On January 24, 2026, at approximately 04:14 hrs., members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service conducted a traffic stop on Princess Street, Chatham.
Investigation revealed that an 18-year-old male from Chatham was breaching his court-ordered curfew condition.
The individual was charged with the following offence:
- Fail to Comply with Release Order
The individual was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where he was released with a scheduled court date of February 18, 2026.
Trespass to Property – CK26005883
Date: January 24, 2026 Time: 10:03 hrs. Location: Third Street, Chatham
On January 24, 2026, at approximately 10:03 hrs., members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of an unwanted person at a business located on Third Street, Chatham.
Investigation revealed that a 26-year-old female from Chatham refused to leave the premises after being directed to do so by staff and by officers.
The individual was charged with the following offence:
- Count 1: Fail to Leave Premises When Directed
The individual was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where she was released with a future court date of February 25, 2026.
Bail Violations – CK26005908
Date: January 24, 2026 Time: 12:16 hrs. Location: Joseph Street, Chatham
On January 24, 2026, at approximately 12:16 hrs., members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service were notified of a bail violation involving an individual under court-ordered conditions at Joseph Street, Chatham.
Investigation revealed that a 47-year-old male from Chatham was breaching conditions requiring him to remain inside a designated residence.
The individual was charged with the following offences:
- Fail to Comply with Release Order x2
The individual was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where he was remanded in custody until his next court date of January 26, 2026, by video.
Court Order / Counterfeit Currency – CK26005965
Date: January 24, 2026 Time: 16:40 hrs. Location: Pine Street, Chatham
On January 24, 2026, at approximately 16:40 hrs., members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service located an individual while on foot patrol on Pine Street, Chatham who was prohibited from attending the location.
Investigation revealed that a 22-year-old male from Chatham was in breach of court conditions. During the investigation, officers also located suspected counterfeit currency.
The individual was charged with the following offences:
- Mischief – Obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use
- Possession of Counterfeit Currency
The individual was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where he was released with conditions and a future court date of March 2, 2026.
Break and Enter – CK26006043
Date: January 24, 2026 Time: 22:22 hrs. Location: Water Street, Chatham
On January 24, 2026, at approximately 22:22 hrs., members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a break and enter on Water Street, Chatham.
Investigation revealed that a 56-year-old male from Chatham-Kent forced entry into the residence by damaging a rear door. The accused broke through the rear door of the victim’s residence and rendered it inoperable. While conducting the investigation, officers located the accused on Water Street, Chatham. Police confronted the accused who was not compliant with officers and resisted arrest.
The individual was charged with the following offences:
- Break and Enter a Dwelling House and commit an Indictable Offence
- Resist Peace Officer
The individual was transported to the South West Detention Centre until his next court appearance on January 26, 2026 by video.
Impaired Over 80– CK26006092
Date: January 24, 2026 Time: 00:27 hrs. Location: Oriole Parkway, Chatham
On January 24, 2026, at approximately 00:27 hrs., a member of the Chatham-Kent Police Service conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Oriole Parkway, Chatham.
As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 17-year-old male from Chatham, was served an Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand and registered a fail.
The accused was charged with the following offence:
- Novice Driver – BAC Above Zero
The accused driver’s license was suspended and the vehicle was towed from the scene. He was released with a Provincial Offence Notice.
Mischief – CK26006183
Date: January 25, 2026 Time: 08:35 hrs. Location: Third Street, Chatham
On January 25, 2026, at approximately 08:35 hrs., members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a disturbance at Third Street, Chatham.
Investigation revealed that a 26-year-old female accused from Chatham, returned to the business despite being issued notices of trespass.
As a result of the investigation, the individual was charged with the following offence:
- Mischief
She was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where she was released with a future court date.
Weapons / Firearm Offences – CK26006194
Date: January 25, 2026 Time: 09:40 hrs. Location: Wallace Street, Wallaceburg
On January 25, 2026, at approximately 09:40 hrs., members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to reports of a weapon being discharged in the residential area of Wallace Street, Wallaceburg.
Investigation revealed that a 31-year-old male from Wallaceburg discharged a flare gun before leaving the area on foot. No injuries were reported.
Further investigation also revealed that the accused was released on a prohibition order, prohibiting him from possessing any firearm, crossbow, prohibited weapon, restricted weapon, prohibited device, ammunition, prohibited ammunition, or explosive substance.
Officers located the accused on the corner of Murray and Wallace Street in Wallaceburg.
The individual was charged with the following offences:
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Careless Use of a Firearm
- Discharge a Firearm into or at a Place in a Reckless Manner
- Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to a Prohibition Order
The individual was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where he was released with conditions and a scheduled future court date of February 26, 2026.
Theft – CK26006285
Date: January 25, 2026 Time: 19:09 hrs. Location: McNaughton Avenue, Wallaceburg
On January 25, 2026, at approximately 19:09 hrs., members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a shoplifting incident at a business on McNaughton Avenue, Wallaceburg
Investigation revealed that a 44-year-old female from Chatham-Kent concealed merchandise and attempted to leave without payment. The individual was arrested under the Trespass to Property Act and she was later released with a Provincial Offence Notice.
