The Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) responded to a variety of incidents over the past 72 hours. Below is a summary of the key events.
Arrest, Mischief – CK26000264
Date: January 2, 2026, Time:10:30 hrs, Location: Edgar, Chatham
On January 2, 2026, at approximately 10:30 hrs., the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a dispute at a residence on Edgar Street in Chatham.
Upon arrival, officers attempted to de-escalate a verbal dispute between two youths. During the interaction, the accused, a 16-year-old male from Chatham, intentionally damaged property belonging to the victim while in the presence of police.
As a result, the accused was arrested and charged with the following offence:
- Mischief Under $5,000
The individual was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters, where he was released with conditions and a future court date of February 18, 2026.
Arrest, Fail to Comply with Probation (IPV) -CK26000444/CK26000446
Date: January 3, 2026, Time:05:06 hr, Location: Wallaceburg
On January 3, 2026, at approximately 5:06 hrs, the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence in Wallaceburg.
Upon arrival, officers located two individuals inside a residence, a 34-year-old male and a 34-year-old female, from Wallaceburg involved in a verbal dispute.
The investigation revealed that the 34-year-old male was in breach of an existing probation order that prohibited communication with the other individual
As a result of the investigation, both individuals were arrested and charged.
The 34-year-old male was charged with
- Failure to Comply with Probation Order
The 34-year-old female was charged with
- Facilitate Breach of Probation Orders
Both individuals were transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters, where the male was released with a future court date of February 11, 2026. The female is currently being held for bail.
Arrest, Theft / Resist -CK26000452/ CK26000450
Date: January 3, 2026, Time:05:06 hr, Location: McNaughton, Wallaceburg
On January 3, 2026, the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a reported theft at a residence on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg.
Investigations revealed that a 26-year-old male victim from Wallaceburg reported his wallet had been stolen out of his parked vehicle and a transaction was made on his Credit card at a gas station located on McNaughton Avenue, Wallaceburg January 3, 2026, at approximately 5:40 hrs.
Officers attended the gas and reviewed the video surveillance, which showed a male using the victim’s credit card to make purchases. Police later returned to the location and observed the same individual attempting to use the credit card again.
Police formed reasonable grounds to arrest the individual, identified as a 36-year-old male from Chatham-Kent. During the arrest, the accused resisted police and attempted to flee the scene, however, he was arrested. A search of the accused resulted in the recovery of the victim’s wallet.
The accused was charged with the following offences:
- Theft Under $5,000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Theft of a Credit Card
- Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card
- Resist Peace Officer
The individual was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters and was later released with a future court date of January 8, 2026.
Arrest, Weapons (IPV) / Resist -CK26000621
Date: January 4, 2026, Time:03:34hrs, Location: Wheatley
On January 4, 2026, at approximately 3:34 hrs., Chatham-Kent Police Service officers responded to a report of a disturbance at a business located on Talbot Road, Wheatley. Investigations revealed that a female had fled into the business and locked herself in a washroom after an altercation with a male.
Further investigations revealed that a 26-year-old male accused and a 21-year-old female victim, both from Wallaceburg, were involved in a verbal argument which began inside of a vehicle. The accused followed the victim into the business and during the dispute, the male threw a glass at the female. The female was not physically injured.
Officers attended the scene and located and arrested the male accused. As a result of the investigation, the accused was charged with:
- Assault with a Weapon
He was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where he was later released with conditions and a scheduled court date of February 11, 2026.
RIDE Program
On January 4, 2026, officers from the Chatham-Kent Police Service conducted a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program in Chatham beginning at approximately 20:26 hrs.
During the initiative:
- 162 vehicles were stopped
- Four Highway Traffic Act cautions were issued
- No roadside alcohol screening device tests were required
Arrest, Assault Bodily Harm – CK26000699
Date: January 4, 2026, Time: 12:58 hrs, Location: Kent Bridge Road, Kent Bridge
On January 4, 2026, at approximately 12:58 hrs, the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of an assault after being contacted by an employee at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.
The investigation revealed that a male patient had attended the emergency department seeking medical treatment for injuries sustained during an assault. The victim, a 45-year-old male from Chatham-Kent, reported that an accused, a 35-year-old male from Chatham-Kent threw a knife at him during a physical dispute, which caused injury to the victim’s toe.
Officers located and arrested the accused. As a result of the investigation, the accused was charged with:
- Assault with a Weapon
- Assault Causing Bodily Harm
He was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where he was later released with a scheduled court date of February 9, 2026.
Arrest, Warrants – CK26000672
Date: January 4, 2026, Time: 09:45 hrs, Location: King Street East, Chatham
On November 1, 2025, at approximately 3:45 hrs, Chatham-Kent Police Service officers responded to a report of a disturbance on King Street East, Chatham.
Investigations revealed that a verbal altercation involving several individuals escalated into a physical dispute. Further investigation revealed that the accused, a 33-year-old male from Chatham, used a baseball bat to strike a 42-year-old female victim from Chatham. The victim sustained injuries and was assessed by Emergency Medical Services.
At the time of the incident, the accused was bound by a court order prohibiting him from possessing weapons. Officers attended the residence of the accused; however, he refused to exit the premises.
Officers formed reasonable grounds to charge the accused with the following offences:
- Count 1: Assault with a weapon
- Count 2: Fail to comply with release order
A warrant was issued for his arrest.
On January 4, 2026, at approximately 09:45 hrs, Chatham-Kent Police Service officers attended a residence on King Street East, Chatham to execute a Feeny warrant for the accused.
Officers established a perimeter around the residence after the individual refused to exit. Negotiations were initiated and continued throughout the day.
At approximately 14:04 p.m., officers gained entry into the residence. The individual was arrested without incident. There were no injuries reported to officers or to the public.
The accused was arrested on the strength of an existing warrant and was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he is currently being held for bail.
