The Chatham-Kent Police Service has charged a 19-year-old male from Tilbury following an investigation into damage to the Veterans Memorial Crosswalk in downtown Erieau.

On July 27, 2026, at approximately 09:50 hrs, the Chatham-Kent Police Service received a report that a vehicle had caused significant damage to the crosswalk and roadway. Investigators determined that the damage occurred on July 25, 2026, at approximately 02:00 hrs, when a pickup truck performed a burnout over the memorial crosswalk.

During the investigation, police utilized CCTV footage to identify the suspect’s vehicle and followed up on information provided by the public. These investigative measures helped officers identify the truck and confirm that the driver had operated the vehicle at the time of the incident. A warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest.

On October 3, 2026, at approximately 20:01 hrs, the accused was arrested on the strength of his outstanding warrant and charged with Mischief over $5,000. The individual was later released with a court date scheduled for November 16, 2026.
