The Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) responded to a variety of incidents over the past 24 hours. Below is a summary of the key events.
Impaired/Over 80 – CK26013797
Date: February 23, 2026, Time: 17:22 hrs., Location: McNaughton Avenue Wallaceburg
On February 23, 2026, at approximately 17:22 hrs., the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of an impaired driver on McNaughton Avenue Wallaceburg.
Investigations revealed that a vehicle was driving on the wrong side of the roadway in an unsafe manner before entering a parking lot.
Officers located the vehicle and the driver was identified as a 35-year-old female from Walpole Island. An Approved Screening Device demand was made which resulted in a fail. During an inventory search of the vehicle, officers located unsealed bottles of liquor inside of the vehicle.
The individual was arrested and transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters for further breath testing, where she provided two samples above the legal limit.
She was charged with the following offences:
- Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
The accused was later released with a scheduled future court date of March 26, 2026.
Mischief – CK26013827
Date: February 23, 2026, Time: 20:01 hrs., Location: Grand Avenue West, Chatham
On February 23, 2026, at approximately 20:15 hrs., Chatham-Kent Police Service officers responded to an incident involving damage to property inside the front lobby of the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters.
A 52-year-old male accused from Chatham-Kent attended the headquarters in violation of an existing probation order which prohibited him from attending, except in an emergency or during an arrest. While inside, the accused defaced a sign in the lobby, belonging to the Chatham-Kent Police Service.
Officers formed grounds to charge the accused with the following:
- Count 1: Fail to comply with probation order
- Count 2: Mischief Under $5000
He was located on Grand Avenue West, Chatham and was arrested and transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where he is held for bail.
Mischief – CK26013889
Date: February 23, 2026, Time: 00:33 hrs., Location: King Street West, Chatham
On February 23, 2026, at approximately 00:33 hrs., Chatham-Kent Police Service officers responded to a report of a break and enter incident on King Street West, Chatham.
Investigations revealed that two individuals attempted to force entry into a building. The suspects attempted to pry open into multiple doors before being interrupted by a complainant in which they fled the scene afterwards.
Through the use of surveillance footage, the suspects were identified as a 37-year-old male from Harwich Township and a 28-year of male from Chatham-Kent.
Officers located both individuals on King Street West, Chatham. They were arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Count 1: Mischief – Destroys or Damages Property (28-year-old male only)
- Count 2: Possession of Break in Instruments
The individuals were transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where they were later released with a scheduled future court date.
Warrants – CK26013835
Date: February 23, 2026, Time: 20:30 hrs., Location: Wallace Street, Wallaceburg
On October 16, 2025, at approximately 19:07 hrs, the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of theft from a local retail store on McNaughton Avenue, Wallaceburg (CK25062805).
Investigation revealed that an individual had fled on foot from the store with various merchandise without attempting to pay.
Through the use of surveillance footage, the suspect was identified as 28-year-old female from Chatham-Kent.
The accused was charged with the following offences:
- Theft Under $5000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
The individual was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where they were released with conditions and a scheduled court date for November 18, 2025, which she failed to attend. Subsequently, a warrant was issued for her arrest.
On February 23, 2026, at approximately 20:30 hrs., the accused was located on Wallace Street, Wallaceburg. She was arrested on the strength of her outstanding warrant. The individual was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where she is currently held for bail.
