The Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) responded to a variety of incidents over the past 24 hours. Below is a summary of the key events.

Break and Enter – CK25074134

Date: December 10, 2025, Time: 05:55 hrs, Location: Queen Street., Chatham (VIA Rail)

On December 10, 2025, at approximately 5:55 hrs, the Chatham-Kent Police Service received a request for assistance from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) regarding an unauthorized person on board a VIA Rail train.

Investigations revealed that a 46-year-old male from London, was on board a VIA Rail passenger train travelling from Windsor towards Chatham. Upon the train’s arrival, the individual was located on the rear engine.

He was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Count 1: Break and Enter – with intent to Commit Indictable Offence

He was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where he was released with a scheduled future court date of January 19, 2025.

Arrest, Impaired – CK25074259

Date: December 10, 2025, Time: 20:11 hrs, Location: Merritt Avenue, Chatham

On December 10, 2025, at approximately 20:11hrs, a Chatham-Kent Police Service officer, while on patrol, observed a motor vehicle travelling westbound on Richmond Street in Chatham with a partially lit rear licence plate light. A traffic stop was conducted on Merritt Avenue, Chatham.

During the investigation, driver identified as a 49-year-old male from Chatham, displayed signs of impairment. The individual also provided expired legal documentation.

He was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters for additional breath testing and provided a sample in excess of the legal limit. He was Charged with the following offences:

  • Count 1: Adult operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Count 2: Improper number plate light
  • Count 3: Fail to Surrender Insurance Card

He was later released with a scheduled future court date of December 30, 2025.

Traffic Enforcement – CK25074269

Date: December 10, 2025, Time: 21:03 hrs, Location: Middle Line, Charing Cross

On December 10, 2025, at approximately 21:03 hrs, Chatham-Kent Police Service officers conducted a traffic stop on Middle Line after an ALPR alert was received for a suspended driver.

During the traffic stop, a driver a 33-year-old male from Chatham was found to be driving while suspended. He was charged with the following offence:

  • Count 1: Driving while suspended

He was later released on two Part III Summonses. The vehicle was towed and impounded for 7 days

Fail To Comply – CK25074329

Date: December 10, 2025, Time: 2:50 hrs, Location: Sandys Street, Chatham

On December 10, 2025, at approximately 2:50 hrs, Chatham-Kent Police Service conducted a traffic stop on Sandys Street in Chatham in relation to Highway Traffic Act Offences.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the driver, 23-year-old-male from Chatham was breaching his court-ordered conditions by communicating with a 32-year-old female from Chatham, who was the passenger in the vehicle.

The accused was charged with the following offence:

  • Failure to Comply with Release Order

The female passenger was also charged with the following offence:

  • Failure to Comply with Release Order

Both individuals were transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where the male was also issued four Part III notices for HTA offences.  He is currently held for bail. The female accused was released with a scheduled future court date of January 13, 2025.
