Chatham-Kent, Ontario: On Thursday, July 18th, 2024, as part of an investigation into the possession of child sexual abuse material, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) executed a Criminal Code Search warrant in Chatham.
A 46-year-old Chatham man was charged with two counts of possession of child pornography, two counts of accessing child pornography and two counts of making child pornography available.
The man was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
As a result of the bail hearing, he was remanded into custody and transported to Southwest Regional Detention Centre until his next court appearance on July 22, 2024. At that time, he will appear by video.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service is a member of the Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet and conducts investigations into Internet Child Exploitation Offences in partnership with numerous Ontario Police Services and law enforcement agencies around the world. The investigations conducted by the Chatham-Kent Police Service ICE unit are made possible by a grant from the Ministry of the Solicitor General.
There are resources available through the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health for those who have a sexual interest in children. The new Talking for Change program is the first of its kind in Canada and provides national and all-ages help for those concerned about their risk to use child sexual exploitation material or offend sexually against a child.
