CHATHAM-KENT, ON – The Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) is pleased to report a significant decline in the community’s Crime Severity Index (CSI) in 2025, reflecting continued progress in public safety through proactive policing, strategic enforcement and strong community partnerships.
Statistics Canada’s Crime Severity Index measures both the volume and seriousness of police-reported crime. Compared to 2024, Chatham-Kent recorded decreases across all three CSI categories:
These positive results reflect the ongoing dedication and professionalism of CKPS sworn and civilian members, as well as the support of community partners and residents who continue to work alongside police to enhance public safety.
The reduction in crime is the result of focused enforcement initiatives, intelligence-led policing, targeted efforts to address repeat and high-risk offenders, investments in technology and training, proactive crime prevention strategies and collaborative partnerships with municipal departments, health-care providers, social service agencies and community organizations.
CKPS also recognizes and values the continued support of the Chatham-Kent community.
Public safety is a shared responsibility and the Service appreciates the collaboration of residents, businesses and partner agencies who contribute to making Chatham-Kent a safer place to live, work and raise a family. Continued investments in policing, technology, training, and staffing help ensure members have the resources necessary to respond effectively to emerging challenges and provide the level of service the community expects and deserves.
While the decrease in crime is encouraging, CKPS recognizes there is still work to be done. The Service remains committed to reducing violent crime, addressing repeat offenders, supporting victims and working closely with community partners to address the root causes of crime, victimization and social disorder.

Understanding community perceptions of safety remains equally important, and we remain committed to addressing concerns and enhancing public safety for everyone who calls Chatham-Kent home.”
