The Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) responded to a variety of incidents over the past 96 hours. Below is a summary of the key events, including arrests, investigations, and other notable occurrences.

Drugs – CK25045789

Date: August 2, 2025, Time: 0102 hrs, Location: Grand Avenue West, Chatham

On August 2, 2025, at approximately 0102 hrs., the Chatham-Kent Police Service officers observed a vehicle travelling westbound on Grand Avenue West with a non-functioning passenger-side headlight.  A traffic stop was initiated at the intersection of Grand Avenue West and Sandy Street. Upon stopping, officers engaged with the driver, 28-year-old male from Chatham who was alone in the vehicle and advised him of the reason for the stop. The driver identified himself and it was determined the driver was unlicensed. 

Officers continued to investigate and discovered several drug-related items in the vehicle being operated by the accused. As a result, the individual was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking

A total of approximately 7.6 grams of suspected cocaine was seized.

The individual was transported to Chatham-Kent Police headquarters, where he remains in custody and is pending bail.

Weapons – CK25046022

Date: August 2, 2025, Time: 23:32 hrs, Location: Dresden

On August 2, 2025, at approximately 23:32 hrs, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a family dispute.

Upon arrival, officers identified grounds to arrest an individual for one count of mischief under $5,000. When police located the individual, a 37-year-old male from Chatham-Kent, officers attempted to place him under arrest. During the interaction, the individual possessed a large object and raised it in a threatening manner toward a Chatham-Kent Police Service officer.

The individual refused to comply with repeated police commands and continued to evade officers. Due to the escalating threat, officers drew and pointed their Conducted Energy Weapons (CEWs), gained compliance and safely arrested the individual without any injury.

As a result of the investigation, the individual has been charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Assaulting a Peace Officer with a Weapon
  • Resisting a Peace Officer

The accused was transported to Chatham-Kent Police headquarters, where he remains in custody and is pending bail.

Pursuit – CK25046215

Date: August 3, 2025, Time: 20:34 hrs, Location: Wheatley Road, Tilbury

On August 3, 2025, at approximately 20:34 hrs., officers with the Chatham-Kent Police Service attempted to stop a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Wheatley Road. The vehicle failed to stop for police, prompting a brief pursuit. In the interest of public safety, the pursuit was quickly terminated.

Through the use of CCTV footage, officers were able to identify both the vehicle and the driver. Officers later located the suspect, a 24-year-old male from Leamington, at a residence in Leamington.

The suspect was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Stunt Driving
  • Failure to Stop at a Red Light

The individual’s vehicle was impounded and his driver’s licence has been suspended.

He was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters. He was released with a future court date of September 15, 2025.

Traffic Stop /Impaired by Drug – CK25046445/ CK25046454

Date: August 4, 2025, Time: 21:17 hrs, Location: King and Bridge Street, Wallaceburg

On August 4, 2025, the Chatham-Kent Police Service conducted a routine traffic stop where a driver, a 43-year-old male from Dover Centre, was suspected of being impaired by drug.

Officers issued a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST), which the driver failed. The individual was arrested and transported to headquarters for further testing conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), which confirmed impairment.

Search incident to the arrest officers located a small quantity of suspected crystal methamphetamine in the vehicle.

As a result, the individual was also charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance

He was later released with a scheduled future court date of August 14, 2025.
