Chatham-Kent Police Service News Release.
Earthquake in Ridgetown, Ontario – February 21, 2025.
On the 21st of February 2025 at approximately 5:45 PM several calls were received through 911 regarding what was believed to be an explosion in the Ridgetown area, with numerous structures experiencing tremors. All Chatham-Kent Emergency Services attended the area to investigate. No explosion(s) were located and the source of the incident was believed to be an earthquake. As a result Environment Canada was contacted and confirmed that at 5:40 PM an earthquake measuring 2.7 on the Richter Scale occurred approximately 30 kilometers east of Chatham. There were no reports of any injuries or property damage as a result of the earthquake.
