Chatham-Kent, Ontario: The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 181 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Eight people were arrested, and three were on outstanding warrants.
Man Arrested for Assault with a Weapon CK24034254
On July 20, 2024, at 4:42 p.m., police responded to a disturbance on William Street South in Chatham.
Officers learned a verbal argument between the man and them woman escalated when the man struck the woman with a glass vase. The woman sustained physical injury as a result of the assault.
On July 21, 2024, at 11:20 a.m., the 32-year-old Harwich Township man attended Chatham-Kent Police headquarters and turned himself in to the police. He was held pending a bail hearing and charged with assault with a weapon.
As a result of the bail hearing, the man was released by the court with conditions and a future court dated of August 20, 2024.
Man Arrested for Impaired Driving CK24034324
At 5:21 p.m., emergency crews responded to Queens Line at the 401-access point in Tilbury for a single motor vehicle roll over.
Upon arrival, officers believed the man was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him. He was transported to police headquarters for breath tests.
The 43-year-old London man was charged with refusal/failure to provide a breath sample, and impaired driving. He was released with conditions a future court date.
Woman Arrested on Outstanding Warrant CK24034343
At 7:04 p.m., police responded to Richmond Street in Chatham for a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers located the woman and the man.
Through investigation, officers learned the woman was wanted on several CKPS warrants. The woman had also been released by the courts on November 26, 2021, with conditions prohibiting her from communicating in person with the man or being within 25 metres of him.
The 60-year-old London woman was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where she was held pending a bail hearing. She is currently facing the following charges: assaulting a police officer, failing to attend court, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.
Man Arrested for Impaired Driving CK24034401
On July 22, 2024, at 1:22 a.m., an officer observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed, westbound on McNaughton Avenue in Chatham.
The officer conducted a traffic stop on Woods Street and believed the man was under the influence of alcohol. The man was arrested and transported to the Ontario Provincial Police, Chatham detachment for breath tests.
The officer also learned the man had been prohibited from driving for the same offence on June 27, 2024.
The 38-year-old Chatham man was charged for impaired driving, driving with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit and operating a motor vehicle while prohibited. He was released with conditions and a future court date of August 6, 2024.
Man Arrested for Break-and-Enter CK24034409
On July 22, 2024, at 3:50 a.m., police responded to a gas station on St. Clair Street in Chatham for a security alarm. Through video surveillance, a man was observed breaking the glass to gain entry. Once inside the man stole cigarettes.
Officers attended and located a man a short distance away. After a foot pursuit, the man was taken into custody.
The 24-year-old Raleigh Township man was transported to police headquarters, where he was released with conditions and a future court date of August 19, 2024. He has been charged with break-and-enter and wear a disguise with intent to commit a criminal offence.
UPDATE: Aggravated Assault on King Street, Chatham
On July 6, 2024, shortly after midnight, police responded to a disturbance on King Street East in Chatham, where one man sustained a serious puncture wound. The victim was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for medical treatment and is currently recovering at home.
On July 21, 2024, at 8:06 p.m., Kodin Young attended Chatham-Kent Police headquarter and turned himself in to the police. He has been charged with aggravated assault.
He was held pending a bail hearing.
Serious Motor Vehicle Collision
On July 21, 2024, 12:06 p.m., emergency crews responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Selton Line, between Kenesserie Road and Victoria Road in Howard Township.
A motorcycle, traveling east on Selton Line crossed over into the westbound lane and collided with a vehicle traveling west. The westbound vehicle went off the roadway and came to rest in a cornfield. The driver received non-life-threatening physical injury.
The 48-year-old Windsor man on the motorcycle was transported to a Windsor hospital with critical, but not non-life-threatening injuries.
