Chatham-Kent, Ontario: The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 190 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Eight people were arrested and seven were on outstanding warrants.
Man Arrested for Failing to Attend Court CK24033458
At 8:55 a.m., police located the man on O’Neil Line in Howard Township.
The man was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in relation to a November 2022 sexual assault investigation.
The 23-year-old Harwich Township man was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was held pending a bail hearing. He is currently facing the following charges: sexual assault and failing to attend court.
As a result of the bail hearing, the man was released by the court with a scheduled court date of August 8, 2024.
Man Arrested on a Surety Relief Warrant CK24033496
On July 9, 2024, a Surety Relief Warrant was issued when the man was failing to comply with the conditions of his release.
On July 17, 2024, at 12:35 p.m., police located the man on Talbot Trail in Harwich Township.
The 32-year-old Ridgetown man was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was held pending a bail hearing. He is currently facing the following charges: robbery, careless storage of a firearm/weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of counterfeit money, two counts of possession of a firearm/ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, two counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon, and three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
As a result of the bail hearing, the man he was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on July 22, 2024. He was transported to the Southwest Regional Detention Centre.
Woman Arrested for Theft CK24033617
On July 18, 2024, at 2:34 a.m., police responded to Second Street in Chatham to investigate suspicious activity.
Upon arrival, officer located the woman hiding behind a display at the corner of King Street and Second Street. The officer confirmed the woman was wanted on an outstanding warrant for a June 27, 2024, theft investigation.
The 39-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and released with a future court date. She was charged with theft and possession of stolen property.
Serious Motor Vehicle Collision
On July 16, 2024, at 2:42 p.m. emergency crews responded to a collision involving a cyclist on Charing Cross Road in Harwich Township, between Drury Line and Fourteenth Line.
A group of four cyclists were riding single file, northbound on Charing Cross when the lead cyclist hit gravel and lost control of the bike. The rider fell and sustained serious injury.
The 71-year-old New York woman was transported to the hospital by EMS for medical treatment. She was assessed to be in critical condition and subsequently airlifted to a London hospital by Ornge Air Ambulance.
