The Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) responded to a variety of incidents over the past 24 hours. Below is a summary of the key events, including arrests, investigations, and other notable occurrences.

Key Incidents-
Pursuit – Case# CK25026433
Date: May 7, 2025. Time: 19:29 hrs., Location: St. Clair Street, Chatham
Details:
On May 7, 2025, at approximately 19:29 hrs, the Chatham-Kent Police Service attempted a traffic stop after an automatic license plate reader flagged a vehicle with plates registered to another vehicle. The suspect vehicle, a silver Honda Civic – failed to stop and attempted to evade police.
The vehicle was observed driving dangerously, failing to stop at intersections and red lights, and nearly colliding with other motorists. The vehicle crashed into a hydro pole and the occupants fled on foot. Officers pursued and arrested the driver who was a 21-year-old male from Chatham shortly afterwards. Two additional suspects, a 23-year-old male and an 18-year-old male both from Chatham were also detained.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the driver held a G1 license, and the vehicle did not possess registration or insurance. The accused was charged with the following:
• COUNT 1 – S. 320.13(1) CC Dangerous Operation
• COUNT 2 – S. 320.17 CC Flight From Peace Officer
• COUNT 3 – S. 200(1)(a) HTA Fail to Remain
• COUNT 4 – S. 12(1)(d) HTA Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle
• COUNT 5 – S. 2(1)(a) CAIA Operate Motor Vehicle on Highway- No Insurance
He was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters and is currently held for bail.
Mischief – Case#CK25026327
Date: May 7, 2025, Time: 0942 hrs., Location: Essex OPP
Details:
On March 17, 2025, at approximately 21:16 hrs, a 48-year-old male from Romney Township, attended a gas station in the Wheatley area, where they pumped fuel and left without making a payment. The incident was captured on video surveillance, and police were contacted. Chatham-Kent Police Service officers reviewed the surveillance footage and successfully identified the suspect.
Later that morning, police located the individual in the town of Wheatley. The suspect was arrest and charged with Theft Under $5000. He was also given notice to appear in court on April 14, 2025, which he failed to appear. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
On May 7, 2025, at approximately 09:42 hrs, the Chatham-Kent Police Service was notified that the suspect was in custody by the Leamington Ontario Provincial Police. Officers attended and executed the outstanding warrant. The accused was released with a scheduled court date of June 9, 2025.
