The Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) responded to a variety of incidents over the past 24 hours. Below is a summary of the key events, including arrests, investigations, and other notable occurrences.

Key Incidents:
Arrest, Theft/CDSA – Case# CK25023136
Date: April 23, 2025, Time: 8:31hrs., Location: Grand Avenue West, Chatham
Details:
On April 23, 2025, at approximately 8:31 hrs, police responded to a report of shoplifting incident at a retail store in Chatham. The suspect, a 36-year-old male from Chatham- Kent was reported to have concealed over $350 worth of merchandise and exited the store without paying. After being confronted, the suspect dropped some items and fled on foot.
Later that same day, at approximately 13:31 hrs, officers located the suspect. After a brief foot pursuit, the individual was arrested. A search, incident to the arrest, was completed which led to the discovery of a rolled-up piece of tin foil containing a white substance suspected to be fentanyl. Also found was additional paraphernalia and packaging materials.
The suspect was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Headquarters, facing the following charges:
• Count 1 – Theft Under $5000
• Count 2 – Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
• Count 3 – Resisting Peace Officer
• Count 4 – Escape Lawful Custody
• Count 5 – Possession of a Controlled Substance
The accused is currently being held for bail.

Date: April 23, 2025, Time: 23:01hrs, Location: Prince Street, Chatham
Details:
On April 23, 2025, at approximately 23:01 hrs, the Chatham-Kent Police Service conducted a traffic stop in Chatham. Upon stopping, the suspect, a 32-year-old male from Chatham pulled over his vehicle into a driveway. He then exited the vehicle, fleeing on foot. Officers pursed the individual, who attempted to enter a nearby residence before ultimately surrendering to police.
The individual was arrested on the strength of an outstanding warrant for fraud under $5000 and also charged with driving under suspension. He was released with a court date scheduled May 26, 2025.
