Chatham-Kent, ON – The Chatham-Kent Police Service is highlighting the successful use of Automated Licence Plate Reader (ALPR) technology following the arrest of three individuals involved in a theft investigation on October 25, 2026.

At approximately 3:11 p.m., police received a report of a theft from Best Buy, located on St. Clair Street in Chatham. Store employees reported that two sound bars, valued at approximately $3,000, had been stolen from the business.

As officers gathered information regarding the suspect vehicle, ALPR technology played a key role in the investigation. The vehicle was subsequently detected on Queens Line, allowing officers to quickly locate and safely intercept it.

A traffic stop was conducted and three individuals were taken into custody without incident. The timely identification of the vehicle through ALPR technology assisted officers in rapidly responding to the incident and recovering investigative leads.

The arrested individuals were later released with future court dates pending.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service utilizes ALPR technology in accordance with provincial legislation and privacy requirements. The technology captures licence plate information visible from public roadways and assists officers in locating vehicles associated with criminal investigations, stolen vehicles, suspended drivers, and public safety concerns.
