The Chatham-Kent Police Service, in partnership with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office and Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue, has concluded the investigation into the commercial structure fire that occurred at Mike’s Place Restaurant on Queen Street in Chatham on September 29, 2026.

Following a thorough examination of the scene, investigators have determined that the fire was accidental in nature and caused by an electrical issue within the building. No evidence of criminal activity was identified. The investigation is now considered complete. While the fire resulted in significant damage to the business, no injuries were reported.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service extends its appreciation to the members of Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue, Emergency Services, the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office, and all responding emergency personnel for their efforts throughout the incident and investigation.

We also wish to express our sincere support to the owners, staff, and everyone affected by this fire. Mike’s Place has been a valued part of the community and we wish all those impacted the very best as they move forward with recovery and rebuilding efforts.
