On August 31, 2026, at approximately 19:13 hrs., members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to an incident on Pine Street in Chatham after receiving multiple 911 calls regarding an individual whose behaviour raised concerns for their well-being and the safety of others.
As officers continued their investigation, it was confirmed that the individual, a 48-year-old male from Chatham, was also wanted on an outstanding warrant in relation to a separate criminal matter.
The individual subsequently barricaded themselves inside the residence. In response, specialized police resources, including the Emergency Response Team, Drone Support Unit, Crisis Negotiators and Incident Command personnel, were deployed to ensure the safety of the individual, responding officers and members of the public.
Police obtained judicial authorization to enter the residence, and after lengthy negotiations, the Emergency Response Team made entry, and the individual was taken into custody safely and without incident.
The accused was arrested on the outstanding warrant and additionally charged with Mischief Under $5000. He is scheduled to appear in court at a future date.
There is no ongoing risk to public safety in relation to this incident.
